Goddess Body Cleanse Review

review

Hello Gods & Goddesses

I am coming to you lovelies today with the long-awaited review of the Goddess Body TeaTox Cleanse.

Last month Triiin and I did the Goddess Body Cleanse, which was created by Angela Elizabeth. This teatox contained three teas: The Mind & Spirit Herbal Blend, The Healthy Yoni Herbal Blend, & The Cleansing Herbal Blend. It also contained Belly Buster Botanicals that can be added to any beverage. The cleanse called for us to ingest these three teas daily, while also eating a mostly raw/vegan diet.

The Mind & Spirit Herbal Blend is consumed in the morning. The Healthy Yoni Herbal Blend, midday. And the Cleansing Herbal Blend at night.

I will be honest. This cleanse was no easy feat for me at first. I like a lot of variety in my diet and I started off the cleanse quite bored by the raw foods I had access to. This was due largely in part that we had not had time to grocery shop just yet. Being busy, makes it harder than you think to drink 3 teas a day, even as an avid tea drinker such as myself. We managed though. Also, I think the first week is when the most major detoxing has to take place, as your body accepts the effects of these herbs and acclimates to a new diet. However, a body rejecting toxins is not its most comfortable.

Once we got past the week one woes, it got a lot easier to keep pushing. We stocked up on fruits and veggies, nuts and granola, and started putting our creative fusion on our meals again. We marinated mushrooms for the first time, which was quite nice. We got better with pre-brewing the teas, so they would be ready and available on those busier days when stopping to brew simply would not be possible. We also got better with creative ways to consistently ingest the teas and our raw foods, in general. One of the best combinative efforts of this was the TeaTox smoothies we began concocting. We could fill them with delicious fresh fruits and tasty teas to effectively fulfill both of our requirements.

Now certain effects I cannot personally attest to (such as those related to menopause, fibroids, endometriosis, etc.) because these are not ailments I am, myself, afflicted by. However, I definitely experienced the other effects this cleanse boasts. During the cleanse, I had a completely painless menstrual cycle. Completely painless. This is partially due to Goddess Body’s Yoni Oil which I have been using consistently for a year now (review coming soon on that liquid gold), but used in tandem with this cleanse, my feminine power could overcome any malady. I also found myself needing to sleep less as a whole. I had energy all day, energy all night, and I could easily subsist on 4 hours of sleep like it had been 8. I’m not an avid consumer of junk but I also found myself craving even less junk then before. Whenever I wanted something sweet, the craving was easily satiated by fruit. I work at a children’s establishment and during the time of the cleanse, with the season change, something was going around. However, with the cleanse and proper diet on my side, I was able to prevent falling victim to the circling illness.

One complaint with this mostly raw diet is that it is a LOT of snacking. Healthy snacking, but still. Loving to cook as I do, I like preparing, then sitting down to eat a home cooked meal. When we had opportunities to throw in the vegan dishes in our arsenal, we were more than pleased.

Doing the Goddess Body Cleanse reminded me of one very important thing: Listen to your body in the many ways it speaks. It will tell you what it needs.

Be discerning of the effects of what you ingest and don’t chalk up not-so-good observations up to coincidence.

I have been a Pescetarian for two years and eat quite healthily in general. As a result of this cleanse, I have learned first hand the sustainability of a vegan diet (though raw eating as a dietary plan is something I would be more likely to do in stints.) In the true spirit of listening to what my body needs, I have decided to adopt a dietary philosophy my Goddess-friend Aeon calls “Flexitarian”. It comes down to this. In many cases, labels are for others. To identify yourself to outsiders, or as a member of a particular group. Not that, that is a bad thing per se, but I am a person who likes to make lifestyle changes and I like to give myself the best chance to do so. Jumping to fit the societal label system, in this case, will not promote that kind of stable change for me. I know I am not quite ready to make that jump to Vegan (and I promised Triiin a trip to my hometown, New Orleans before we give up seafood for good, so that has to happen.) I also don’t think I could ever permanently give up traditional baked goods. But I do see that the vegan lifestyle is the healthiest sustainable lifestyle for human beings. I see the hydration, vitality, and nourishment vegan eating provides & how things like dairy and eggs are not necessary to our diet. I have become privy to how my body interacts with these things in my temple, versus only vegan things. I’d never had this problem before (or perhaps never really noticed it) but, I’ve begun to develop lactose intolerance to an undesirable degree (Which makes perfect sense when you really ponder the thought of an adult human drinking milk intended for baby cows). I’ve never been a huge fan of drinking milk at all, but after this cleanse even milk products have this effect now. I may not be ready to make a permanent jump to Vegan, but now that I have this knowledge, tested against my own body chemistry, I will do my best with what I have acquired. I know my body and I am growing in that knowingness everyday. I know my goals. This aptly named philosophy will allow me to go with the flow of what my soul sees fit at the time. I will remain accountable for what is best for my health and let that evolve in the ways and timings the Universe sees fit to guide me,

As of now my plan is to technically be a pescetarian who eats mostly vegetarian with vegan emphasis. Does that sound like a mish-mosh of confusion or what? Like should we try to say it three times fast or….?lol

Its actually not all that confusing to me. I’m simply planning to 1) Limit my seafood intake as much as possible.(attempting not to exceed 3 times/meals a week.)  2) Limit my dairy intake as much as possible (NEVER drink milk, some allowances will be made but cook with milk product as little as possible) 3) Limit egg consumption (Egg used the creation of something is fine (noodles, baked goods, etc.), but ingest eggs in their form no more than twice a week) . Drink lots of water. Eat lots of veggies. Incorporate more and more vegan things.

Now even with these stipulations, I have eaten even less of these things than I have allowed room for. I haven’t had eggs in weeks and I have even started shying away from cheese (one of my favorite guilty pleasures) more & more. I will stay in avid communication to my body and listen to what it needs to function at its highest degree. Lets see where this flexitarian diet takes me next!

Its May 1st and our 28 day Goddess Body Tea Cleanse is now done! Feeling pretty accomplished and happy about that fact. Smoothies we’re a great asset in maintaining the mostly raw/vegan diet associated with this cleanse. They also we’re a delicious versatile way to incorporate the daily teas. I learned a bit about my body and listening to what it needs. And I learned, firsthand, just how realistically possible and beneficial it is to eat vegan. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to document as much of the cleanse as I would’ve liked since, after the 1st week, I cracked the screen on my phone and it was out of commission for weeks. However, I will be doing a review of the Goddess Body Cleanse soon. In the review I will share my experiences with this cleanse, my fave foods and recipes during the cleanse, and cleanse benefits. Stay tuned lovely lovers!

Goddess BodTEA: Goddess Body Herbal Blends

 Hello Spiiirits!

Time for a quick review of amazing holistic products!

(Don’t those always make you happy? They sure put a smile on my face 🙂 )

Specifically we’ll be talking about the Herbal Blends that Goddess Body sent to our home. Anybody who knows me, KNOWS how much I LOVE tea!! So tasty, medicinal, & relaxing! The lovely Angela Elizabeth sent two kinds: The Mind & Spirit Herbal Blend and the Hair, Skin, & Nails Herbal Blend.

TEAms

Mind & Spirit: This blend contains natural  ingredients that are great for the nervous system like Gotu Kola & Yerba Mate. The intention of this blend is to enhance energy, focus, & concentration/attention, while also stimulating and strengthening ones third eye (consequently enhancing ones level of enlightenment). This tea definitely does what it boasts. After drinking it, I find my mind filled with clarity & deepened perspective. Triiin has even said she feels increased energy radiating from my crown, after ingesting this blend (sort of like a giant, well charged crystal). This blend is delicious hot or cold. I think this is a great blend to drink before you have to do anything that requires mental attention or stimulation. I think this blend is also perfect for those days when you are feeling so well.

TEAhsn

Hair Skin & Nails: This fragrant  blend contains one of my favorite flowers! Hibiscus! Hibiscus is great for the cardiovascular system & has blood cleansing properties. Featuring Rosemary, Mullen & plenty other health & beauty enhancing ingredients, I love the texture the blend has to it. And the benefits are AH-mazing, blessing its user with a nourished scalp, stronger roots, sustained growth, stronger nails, reduced blemishes, detoxified skin, for all around healthy hair, skin, and nails from inside out. This blend is delicious hot or cold as well, and (in my opinion) has a good flavor to be blended into fruity smoothies.

(Tea comes in 4oz packs with a tea ball infuser, Both blends are 100% natural & 100% vegan)

I truly can’t choose my favorite out of the two! That tea ball infuser that comes with each blend is a Godsend as well! I love it so much. It makes making using blends or fresh herbs/roots, etc. for teas a WORLD easier.

Angela Elizabeth of Goddess Body has a MS in Biology and her holistic blends are the TRUTH. Not only Mind & Spirit and Hair, Skin & Nails herbal blends are available, but Yoni Goddess blend, Fibroid & Cyst blend, and many more delicious, holistic, healing blends!

Check out GoddessBody.org to try these, or any of the amazing blends available for purchase!

The Goddess Body products that were sent into our home by the lovely Angela Elizabeth were the CAS Toning Balm & the Yoni Oil.

gb1 gb2

CAS Toning Balm: The CAS Toning Balm is a blend that clears and smooths skin, targeting cellulite, fatty deposits. The CAS in name stands for Coffee, Aloe, & Shea. The topical caffeine from the coffee widens blood vessels, improving circulation and the removal of toxins, fluid, and fat. Aloe is renown for its amazing skin moisturizing, tightening, and regenerative properties. Vitamin A & E dense shea butter is a superb moisturizer with healing properties for skin and hair. So knowing that these are the 3 main ingredients, you already know that this concoction is primed for greatness…and it did not disappoint! The product is packaged into a glass container. You get a pretty sizable amount of product, especially when you take into account the consistency which is thick but spreads easily (and doesn’t take a lot of product to cover a pretty good amount of space). The balm smells delicious giving the wearer a light citrus scent. Due to all the natural oils, the balm is oily on your skin if over applied, so be careful (but like I said you don’t need too much). Immediately after application, my skin felt soft and supple and remained that way throughout the entire day. After no more than a week of using this product daily, I noticed an increased natural sheen and glow to my skin. This amplified natural sheen and glow remained even on days when I skipped using the product. Though I don’t have a ton of marks and blemishes, I did notice the marks I do have begin to substantially lighten to blend more and more with my skin. I absolutely love this balm!

Yoni Oil: Yoni is the Sanskrit word for Divine Passage, Vagina, Womb, Sacred Temple…you get the picture. It’s our blessed and sacred lady bits, Goddesses, and yoni oil is a prime holistic asset for keeping the precious vagina working to Goddess-standard. Yoni oil contains a combination of oils such as tea tree oil and neem oil as well as delicious herbs lemongrass and sage. These oils and herbs (as well as the numerous others present in the blend) combine to create the perfect potion for feminine yoni health. The oil has the capability to restore balance, acting as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal antidote. The combo also strengthens and tones the vaginal walls while encouraging healthy lubrication as well. It also can be used as a healthy natural lube, itself. With daily application, I observed a notable increase in the lubrication and strength of my own yoni since beginning to use this oil back in May. I feel that the increase in vaginal strength has caused my menstrual cycle to complete more quickly (since I can expel more at once). The oil, as well as healthy eating practices, has also decreased to the number of painful days in my cycle to one. Lastly it has a delicious lemongrass-y scent and can be effectively used on, not only your yoni, but your skin & hair as well. I haven’t actually tried the oil on my hair yet, but the anti-bacterial properties work wonderfully on skin (especially when a pimple surfaces up! It’ll get rid of that sucker in a flash). Triiin has pretty sensitive face skin when it comes to which products she can use and she swears by this oil for her face! This is definitely a new staple product in our lives.

These worked out so phenomenally, I can’t wait to try more Goddess Body products! I’d definitely recommend the CAS Toning Balm and the Yoni Oil to any woman ready to channel her inner Goddess! (Plus the holistic products are universally good for skin and hair, so men you can use them too!)

Trendspotting Tuesdays: Clean Eating + the Beginning of Journey

Here’s one trend that shouldn’t be a trend…

clean eating

Clean Eating. I say it shouldn’t be a trend because trends come and go. But I believe once you come into the knowledge and practice of eating clean, that should become a life addition that never goes out of style. A desire to take care of my temple and a somewhat spiritual call to become a vegetarian is what drove me toward clean eating. I used to be an avid supporter of the mantra, “I eat whatever I want, when I want, no matter how bad for me, & no one’s gonna stop me!” I figured as a rather healthy, fit, young person, why should I give up tasty, fatty foods? But every year for Lent, I give something up. Even though I’m not catholic, I entertain the idea of sacrifice as a dear ideal that is very good for the growing and rearing of the soul, as well as closer relationship with God. In a quest to be healthier and take care of our temples more, Triiinity & I gave up fast food, together.

I had been for some reason, around this time, started to feel a tug on my heart…and my stomach…to become a vegetarian. I was wildly opposed to the idea, yet it kept popping up all around me. This couldn’t be by coincidence. I shared this with Triiinity, who began growing toward the idea as well, and I succumbed to the inner desire. Or at least future “me” did. I told myself I would become a vegetarian one day. Though I gave myself no finite limit on that. At the time, such a declaration was big enough of a change of heart.

The more I stayed away from fast food, the more healthy changes I noticed in my body. I began to research just how bad fast food is for us. In that process, not only did I find out many terrible facts about fast food, but also about much of the food we buy on the shelves at our grocery stores each day. And how many of  those over-processed goods are responsible for deadly conditions, such as diabetes, high-blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, hormone imbalances…and the list goes on. I thought that, out of respect for self and my Creator, I would take better care of my body and try to get others to do the same as well.

We decided that, even after Lent, we would not return to eating fast food. We sustained ourselves by eating only home-cooked meals or food from restaurant-style establishments. Anything that came from a source that appeared too processed had to go. We also stopped over-consumption of candy, potato chips, and things of that nature. On June 1st we gave up meat and decided to become pescetarians. This means we do not eat beef, pork, or chicken, only fish and other seafood. And of course veggies and grains. We have now set a finite date for vegetarianism and plan to become vegetarians on January 1, 2014. We hope to one day become vegans…but that’s a longgg ways off, for now.

Now are by no means the best clean-eating connoisseurs on the block, we are but beginners ourselves. But I’ve noticed, since the start of my journey, that a lot more people in my age group are becoming interested in clean & healthy eating. I want to share a couple facts & tips I’ve learned along the way, to help people stay on the path to their cleanest, healthiest, and best self.

Fact: GMO’s (genetically modified organisms), which are banned in many other countries in the world are now present in 75% to 80% of  conventional processed food in the U.S. GMO’s have been linked to numerous health problems, and cause tumors in rats (as well as the vegetables and fruits they are used to manipulate)

Tip: Keep most of your shopping in the fresh food sections of the grocery store. Your basket should look more like this, than this.

Fact: Products that contain GMO’s are not required to be labeled by our FDA.

Tip: Buy organic whenever possible. Things try to use words like “natural” and claims like “no artificial ingredients” but usually unless it says organic, its not. Meaning it has some sort of processed or artificial ingredients present. Buying organic goods is a great help in avoiding GMO’s

Fact: Most animals used for meat are fed GMO grains and  corn feed and are pumped full of HGH (human growth hormones). The animals are kept in super harsh conditions, in which sickness and infection is not treated. In occasions where the sickness is treated, it  is treated by pumping sick animals full of antibiotics. Many animals dwell in such horrible conditions that their dead lay among them and the sick, dead bodies are eaten by their own kind. The ones that survive to eat the sick/dead animals…are the ones we end up eating.

Tip: My personal solution to this is to just phase out meat entirely. However, if you would like to keep meat in your diet, look for meat that is labeled as treated humanely, hormone-free, cage-free, etc. This way you will keep from eating animals that have been kept in unsanitary conditions or given unhealthy feed.

Fact: Not only does the FDA here in the U.S. not require GMO products to be labeled, which makes them hard to avoid, but also, due to the spike in interest in eating clean, many products claim to be all natural, GMO free, etc., etc., but are not.

Tip: Look for foods verified by the Non-GMO project whenever possible. They are a non-profit organization that looks to verify the standard of foods that claim to be organic or non-gmo. They also have loads of information on their website, so if you’re interested in learning more about GMO’s,  that’d be good to check out!

.        .        .

It can be more expensive to eat healthy sometimes, but not if your strategic with what you buy, you can actually cut costs in many areas. It may take a little more effort to shuck corn yourself or cut carrots instead of buying canned ones. However, you can ensure that they are organic and you will save a little money, too, by not buying things in their more convenient (pre-cut, pre-portioned, preservative laden..) form. And while some practices may be a bit more expensive, spending a little more money to eat healthier is cheaper than the money you’d spend on treatment for cancer or diabetes (or any other ailments that can come from eating unhealthily). So think on that and make the choice to be a little healthier, each day.

Other tips for eating clean are to avoid milk, bleached flours, and refined sugars. These are steps we have started the process toward but are not fully enacted in our diet yet. For now, we are just pescetarians, trying to eat cleaner, and taking things one step at a time. 🙂

***Also, I want to make it clear that being a vegetarian or vegan is not the only way to eat healthy or clean. It is but a choice in the way you desire to go about your journey to healthy and clean eating. ***

I know this process can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but the best way to begin is with research. Just research a little something on the subject each day. Knowledge is power and it is the best place to start as it almost always propels you toward action :).  If you are interested in healthy eating and need further guidance on how to get started, feel free to email me at jazthejournalist@gmail.com. I’ll be happy to share the knowledge I’ve gained in my journey thus far.
