The Five S’s of Summer

Hey dolls ! I am here with the top 5 things a fashionista just can’t do without for the summer. Let’s get right to it !

The Sunnies

Image

Sunnies are the ultimate summer accessory! They shield your eyes from the blinding rays while making you look glam. Pick up a pair in a bright, fun color, cool shape or funky print, or go for the classic-style shade. Whatever suits your style!

The Summer Dress

Image

Dresses are ideal for summer time, especially the one with a flirty cut and tropical-esque floral print like the one above. Whether mini, midi, or maxi, when selecting a summer dress, make sure it is flattering to your figure and has breathable material and cut for the warm weather. The floral print blouson dress above is from Forever 21 and costs $24.80.

The Swim Wear

Image

C’mon, its summer! You gotta have a little fun in the sun, and that usually involves getting wet. Whether for a trip to the beach, or the neighborhood pool, you gotta be ready to pull out your swimsuit at a moments notice. There is a vast variety of cute popular swimsuit cuts for Summer 2012. From the retro cut to the one shoulder, be sure to pick the swimsuit that will be most flattering to your body type. It’s the best way to ensure you will be confident and avoid embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions.

The Shorts

Image

Who wears short shorts? We wear shorts! Its summer, its hot, and you can’t wear pants all the time. Embrace the heat with shorts. You can wear basic denim cut-offs or switch it up some shorts with a quirky print. The ones above are shorts by The Pretty Junk from Asos Marketplace & cost $83.60.

The Sandals

Sandals are a definite summer staple. Feel free to show off that fresh pedi in some strappy open-toed kicks! My advice is to stock up on as many pairs as you can because they are the one thing you will probably wear everyday of the summer, or close to.  This pair is from Forever 21 and is only $12.80!

Stripes, Dots, and Florals, Oh My! : A Guide to Mixing Prints

Hello fellow lovers of fashion! We have all been in a fashion rut before where, the things in our closet just don’t look as appealing to us as they used to, your outfit combos feel played out, and you simply have a closet full of nothing to wear. Well, one simple way to update your style without spending a dime is mixing prints!

Let me warn you however, that this could either go really right…or really, REALLY wrong.

I will give you a few simple options that I think will keep you on the right track to be a mixed-print-fashionista!

Option #1

Wear the same print together in different colors/sizes

Image

In the photo above Rihanna rocks a tan leopard printed top with red leopard printed bottoms. She keeps her accessories black, pulling the outfit together into one cohesive look.

Fellow fashion blogger and author of The Fancy Pants Report also shows a good example of this option here by inverting the colors and wearing a top with larger polka dots than those in her bottoms. Since she is wearing black and white polka dots, her red shoes give just the right pop of color.

Option #2

When wearing two totally different prints, make sure they have at least one color in common.

ImageSolange is the queen of mixing prints, and an outfit like this is right up her style-alley. To make this look work, solange made sure that her aztec shorts had white and black in them just like her top. Her nude wedges add style without overpowering the rest of the outfit and her pop of eclectic jewelry makes the look her own. (by the way, love the fro Solange team Natural! )

Image

Here we see this rule used a little more interpretively, but it still works! The pastel pink in the striped shorts, while not the exact same color, is in the same color family as the coral in the roses on the model’s shirt. Also, because the striped shorts are in such mild colors in comparison to the top, they work as a solid against the bolder print, giving the look balance.

Option #3

Wear numerous prints in the exact same color(s).

Image

This model is wearing vertical stripes, horizontal stripes, criss-crossed stripes, and varying sizes of polka dots. How does this keep from becoming a muddled mess? All the prints are in the same two colors. That in itself is enough to tie everything together in a way that is more hot-stuff than hot-mess. The yellow skirt brightens up the look adding a funky pop of color to the ensemble. Those fleur de lis earrings? Just the icing on the cake. I’d snatch ’em if i could!

Well guys, I hope you find these options for how to mix various patterns as a breath of life to your wardrobe. Hopefully you can use these options to make mixing prints a lot less of a daunting task than it otherwise could be.

Patterns for Spring !

Spring is Here!!!! *Yayyyyy* and these are the patterns & prints I am loving for embracing this season

Stripes

This pattern is perfect for Spring. It’s part of the nautical trend that is becoming very popular right now. Stripes are very versatile. They can be used for a more polished streamlined style or a fun carefree look, depending on how you dress them. Another bonus for stripes is that they can flatter your body shape. If you want to make your body look slimmer opt for thinner, vertical stripes. For my girls with less curves than they desire, you can wear thicker, horizontal stripes to make you look wider in certain areas. Try a striped maxi dress like the one above from forever21.com. Its only $14.80.

Polka Dots

Polka dots are just fun fun fun! This print is definitely a must have for spring, especially when it comes in pastel colors. The oversized top pictured above is from acidlace.com, a vintage site based in the UK. It is priced for 15euros and would look great with high-waisted white shorts or a pair of tights.

Aztec

Aztec print is definitely a spring print for my ladies with funkier style. The tribal-inspired print usually brings together a variety of colors and geometric shapes to create something that is eclectic and stylish. For instance this beautiful Aztec scarf from thestellarboutique.com. It is 14euros and features a series of bold colors that come together in a way that is somehow cohesive and chic. That’s the beauty of Aztec!

Lace

Lace is a pattern that is really in for any season, but in bright colors is especially fab for spring. The breathable material gives a flirty, girly edge to any outfit and when worn correctly, is a perfect testament to the light-brightness of springtime. Check out the yellow lace shorts above, aren’t they to die for? They would be perfect paired with a white cami, a denim vest, and a statement necklace. Oh yeahhh.

Floral

Last but not least an obvious choice for spring, floral print! In this season, flowers are blooming and the world is coming to life again; what wonderful inspiration for fashion. For springtime, I definitely recommend florals with pastel color schemes, however the more it warms up, the more tropical you can get with the colors and shapes of your florals. The floral chiffon tank blouse pictured above is from chictopia.com and is $38.00. The black gives an edgier take on springtime but the colors of the flowers keep the outfit bright and right for the season.

Which is your favorite of these prints? Vote below!

Until Next Time!
