Woman Crush Wednesday: Rihanna Bares it All

Hola, Spiiirits!

At the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 2nd, Rihanna bared it all in a completely sheer crystal-net floor length gown that was custom made by designer Adam Selman. Well “bared it all” may be a little too forward…she did have a flesh tone thong on that beautiful bod. Talk about shining bright like a diamond, Rih!

Rih paid homage to the Josephine Baker era in this floor length frock, which hosted 230, 000 Swarovski crystals.

Now of course Rih’s bold, nude (or at least mostly nude) expression, has brought much backlash. (Instagram even, to my knowledge, removed her page because of it, TUH!) However, I am here to say that I am in support of this fashion choice!

First of all, Rihanna looks beautiful and her body is to D-I-E for in this dress. Second, why is it that women have to be ashamed of their bodies? These bodies (male or female) are blessings from Source, so why is it we cannot honor them as such? Rihanna is a young woman in her prime finding strength in her femininity, versus the shame that is so readily taught, and I applaud her for that. (BTW this is not the first time Rih has worn something sheer in public that exposes her breasts nor that she’s been photographed topless. So I don’t understand why this time is SO much more of a big deal than the others).

Also, I am a believer in the #freethenipple movement. It is simply the gender roles set by a patriarchal society that allow for a man to freely be topless, nipple exposed, but shame a woman for the thought of the same thing. Even though the chest scientifically contains the same visible make up. While I love clothing, I just don’t think nudity should be so frowned upon. It is after all, our original form. We are taught to be ashamed of and hide our root physical form and then we wonder why we find it hard to love ourselves.

Remember, God made the naked form. Man, made clothing. That’s all I’m saying…

BUT…I’m really curious to know you guys’ opinion on Rih’s outfit and public displays of nudity as a whole. Do you agree with Rih’s #freethenipple approach or do you think she should have covered up for the awards?

Let me know!

Victoria Secret Fashion Show Style Recap

Hola Blog Dolls! I’ve missed you!

I’ve been so swamped with work, school work, personal struggles, the whole 9…plus its the end of the semester so you know what that means. Finals and cramming.

But through it all I’m here to make a little time for you guys…thats how much I love ya! *muah*

Last night I watch the annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show on CBS and its was, as usual, a pleasure to the eyes. Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Bruno Mars took the stage as the night’s performers, while numerous “angels”, such as Adriana Lima and Miranda Kerr, ripped the runway in fun and exquisite VS Fashions. Rihanna even gave us a little modeling herself, Tyra Banks style.

If you missed the show, here are a couple of photographic highlights below…

What was your favorite look of the night? How did you like the performers style choices?

Trendspotting: Leather

Hola my dears!

Today is a beautiful day and its actually starting to get cold in the South (whadya know?) And I’m  actually not a big fan of the cold but its still bearable out there, just cold enough that I can pull out a few cute cold-weather items. 🙂

This leads me to a spotlight on the perfect cold-weather trend for fall…LEATHER. Leather is a big trend for fall. I’m seeing it on celebs, runways, and everyday street fashionistas, and as it gets colder, this is definitely a trend to embrace. Leather is mostly worn in black, but there has been a rise of colored leather as well, as of late. Check out a couple of pictures I accrued below of the trend being put to best use…

The leather trend comes in various colors, shapes and styles so there is something leather out there that can flatter anyone. Gon’ get you some!!

Trendspotting: Forest Green

I can feel it guys. The big color for Fall 2012 is GREEN! Specifically a kind of forest and military green is coming in as a huge player in Fall makeup and wardrobe. This darker more muted green is perfect for Fall and when done right can look beautiful against any skin tone. It is in my opinion best complemented by browns and golds (great Fall staple colors as well). Take a look at some of the pictures I have compiled below, to inspire you to rock green right in the Fall season!

Hope you guys are inspired to “Go Green” this Fall! Until Next Time…

Stripes, Dots, and Florals, Oh My! : A Guide to Mixing Prints

Hello fellow lovers of fashion! We have all been in a fashion rut before where, the things in our closet just don’t look as appealing to us as they used to, your outfit combos feel played out, and you simply have a closet full of nothing to wear. Well, one simple way to update your style without spending a dime is mixing prints!

Let me warn you however, that this could either go really right…or really, REALLY wrong.

I will give you a few simple options that I think will keep you on the right track to be a mixed-print-fashionista!

Option #1

Wear the same print together in different colors/sizes

Image

In the photo above Rihanna rocks a tan leopard printed top with red leopard printed bottoms. She keeps her accessories black, pulling the outfit together into one cohesive look.

Fellow fashion blogger and author of The Fancy Pants Report also shows a good example of this option here by inverting the colors and wearing a top with larger polka dots than those in her bottoms. Since she is wearing black and white polka dots, her red shoes give just the right pop of color.

Option #2

When wearing two totally different prints, make sure they have at least one color in common.

ImageSolange is the queen of mixing prints, and an outfit like this is right up her style-alley. To make this look work, solange made sure that her aztec shorts had white and black in them just like her top. Her nude wedges add style without overpowering the rest of the outfit and her pop of eclectic jewelry makes the look her own. (by the way, love the fro Solange team Natural! )

Image

Here we see this rule used a little more interpretively, but it still works! The pastel pink in the striped shorts, while not the exact same color, is in the same color family as the coral in the roses on the model’s shirt. Also, because the striped shorts are in such mild colors in comparison to the top, they work as a solid against the bolder print, giving the look balance.

Option #3

Wear numerous prints in the exact same color(s).

Image

This model is wearing vertical stripes, horizontal stripes, criss-crossed stripes, and varying sizes of polka dots. How does this keep from becoming a muddled mess? All the prints are in the same two colors. That in itself is enough to tie everything together in a way that is more hot-stuff than hot-mess. The yellow skirt brightens up the look adding a funky pop of color to the ensemble. Those fleur de lis earrings? Just the icing on the cake. I’d snatch ’em if i could!

Well guys, I hope you find these options for how to mix various patterns as a breath of life to your wardrobe. Hopefully you can use these options to make mixing prints a lot less of a daunting task than it otherwise could be.

Until Next Time!

3D Nails: Fab or Fail ?

Lately I have noticed a rise in 3D nail designs. Whether its studs, chains, bling, flowers, gems or pearls, more and more girls are opting to add dimensions to their nail styles. Celebs such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce have been spotted sporting this new nail trend as well.

I personally like the trend, but in my opinion it is one that can be easily overdone. As long as its kept in moderation, I am a fan.

What do you guys think of the trend? Is it Fashion Fab or a Fashion Fail? Would you ever try it?
