Warby Parker Winter Collection 2014 Top Ten Faves

WPWC2014

Greetings Spiiirits!

Sending love & light to you all,

Today was the launch of Warby Parker’s 2014 Winter Collection! Warby Parker is a brand that seeks to provide affordable and stylish glasses. Their versatile selections offer a vast variety that caters to both fashion or prescription needs. And though I do not wear prescription lenses, I love fashion lenses and have a blood lust for stunning frames. (Not to mention the fact that Triiin has been in dire need of new prescription lenses, so we’re shopping around). Given Triin’s need & my blood lust, I could not resist picking my top ten fave selections from their newest collection!

Now for the Top Ten-sies…in no particular order

1.WP1 WP1-2

2.WP2

3.WP3 WP3-2

4.WP4 WP4-2

5.WP5 WP5-2

6.WP6WP6-2

7.WP7 WP7-2

8.WP8 WP8-2

9.WP9 WP9-2

10.WP10

From this collection, I was predominately inspired by the earthen leopard-like prints and the cuts that featured heavy top frame with slender frames on the bottom.I really think that cut is very face flattering and the classic black in this style do not disappoint either. I love both the feminine and masculine variations on this style (for example the very feminine, cat-like cut of ¬†#6, in contrast to the more unisex cut of #9). I’d say my top pick for eyeglasses would be #6 and for sunglasses would be #3 (and my guess is Triiin’s top fave would probably be #1 for eyeglasses and #3 for sunnies as well). ūüôā

{P.S.: True to their belief that everyone has a right to see and their desire to make sure everyone who needs glasses can have access, Warby Parker works with non-profits like VisionSpring to make sure that for every pair of glasses sold a pair is distributed to someone in need. So when you buy their frames you can feel even better knowing you are lending someone else the gift of vision as well. Which is pretty Ah-mazing!}

Check out the eyeglasses and sunglasses in their new collection for yourself and tell me, which ones are your faves??

Menswear Mondays : Costume Ideas for Men

Hola all, Halloween is drawing near!

And I realized that I had given some options to my ladies as far as costumes they could put together from their closest, use a little DIY to make, or cheaply buy, however I offered no recourse for my guys! I apologize my dears, and I am here to fix the situation.

Here are a couple of last minute ideas for costumes you guys can be that won’t break the bank…

The Hobo

This little man did it best! This costume is easy an inventive. Wear a flannel shirt and some ripped jeans, add a little dirt effect for flair, get a styrofoam cup or cardboard sign and put a funny “will work for…” type statement on it and its one and done. Don’t forget your beard! Which can be drawn on or fake hair fuzzies glued on. Your perrogative!

The Zombie

Just like with the girl version, you can wear regular clothes and bloody-fy them. All you need to do is maybe put in some creepy contacts and add a little undead like makeup and¬†you’re¬†good to go.

Clark Kent

Superman! Dun dun dunnnnn!!! Well, not quite…but a much easier way to achieve an even cooler costume. All you need here is a suit and some “nerd glasses” (an easy way to get these is to pop the lenses out of the ones given for 3D movies…perfection). Open up the suit slightly to reveal a shirt with a superman logo on it, just so everyone knows¬†you’re¬†a superhero in disguise. You can easily buy a cheap superman shirt or make your own from a basic tee and an iron on.

The Fireman

Probably one of the easiest to achieve. Especially if you’ve got a nice bod. Boots, pants, suspenders, oiled torso, and a fire hat. One and done.

And there it is! Hopefully I have inspired some good, quick, and easy last minute costume ideas for my men out there. Stay tuned for more men-friendly fashion & advice next week!

Until Next Time

Twenty One : The Birthday Post

As many of you may know, I just made 21 this past weekend. I am still reeling with excitement from all the festivities! ^_^ . On Friday I got my nails and toes done and went to dinner with my family. On Saturday (my actual b-day), I had an early dinner with my family and got to see a couple friends who came from out of town to visit me for the¬†occasion. When I got home my lovely roommate had hung streamers¬†from¬†my door and had a bottle waiting for me. Later that night, my lovely and very awesome friends surprised me with a surprise party for my birthday!!! It was a glow-in-the-dark/blacklight party and it was sooooo much fun!! I also received many gifts with include but are not limited to, bottles of wine and liquor, the Hunger Games DVD, and my very own blacklight!!!!!! The next day my friends and I hung out and went on an excursion to a little place called Dago’s and shared quite the bonding experience. I just want to share my bday experience with you all as only photos can so….here goes!

Trendspotting : Neon

Color will always be a big trend for the Spring and Summer months. Its only right, as the weather brightens up, so does our wardrobe ! As we segue from Spring to Summer one big color trend that’s emerging is Neon. Whether its on a bag or boldly slathered on our nails, Neon is a must-have in our fashion arsenal. Here are a few items on my neon-wishlist for the season :

Image

These bold pink “South of 5th” sunnies from Urban Outfitters are perfect for the season! Wear them with any outfit for a bit of neon flare. They run about $16 and they are cat-eye glasses, a trend bonus!

Image

Taking summer school maybe? I am, and Lord knows I will need a way to carry around my books. I could just use one of the handy shoulder bags I already own (that’s probably what i’ll actually do), but in my fashion fantasy land I’m walking around the campus with this baby on my back. I’m not too often a fan of backpacks, but this one screams chic.On sale for $29.99, this Baggu Neon Backpack can be purchased on fredflare.com. Lastly this bag was made from 100% recycled cotton canvas, an environmental plus!

Image

With its sassy cut and neon accents, this dress has just the right amount of spice. Perfect for a night out, it’s $29.90 and can be found on windsorstore.com

Image

Neon polish, oh yeahh! Probably the cheapest way to sport the neon trend, this nail polish and others like it only run about $4 and can be found in drugstores and your local Walmarts’ and Targets. I will definitely be getting some and putting it into effect ASAP!

Have a little fun with neon yourselves!

Fashion Rules to Live By

pic.twitter.com/n2zysNsJ

Hola my fellow fashion nerds! This is my first post & I want to give you guys the goods. I have for you today a list of very important and timeless principles to fashion that, in my opinion, can be useful to you all for the rest of your lives. I encourage you all to add this page to your fashion bibles. Here goes!!

1. BE CONFIDENT

Confidence is one of the most cardinal keys to fashion. You have to believe in you if you want anyone else to. By that, I mean whatever you have on, however you have your hair styled, etc. you have to rock it with pride and know that you are a stylish diva in your own right. Everyone is not going to like what items you choose or the way you style them, but you can’t let that shake you. Its all about the way you feel! When you feel confident it exudes in your walk, your stance, and your outfit. No outfit looks as good if you forget to put your “confidence hat” on!

2. BE A RISK TAKER

Now I take into account that everyone is not going to be as risque’ as some celebs or those in the fashion industry (partially because some of the styles are just not practical for everyday wear), however with this new found confidence,¬†don’t¬†be afraid to step out of your comfort zone sometimes. If there is an item or style you really like but its not necessarily trending at the moment, that is not an automatic reason to shy away. If you take that risk you may be able to style it in a way that is trendy and hip, yet still original, allowing you to step out of the crowd and closer to your own personal style. Besides, how do you guys think a lot of new trends get discovered or old trends get¬†resurrected? Somebody took a risk and it caught on. So next time you feel the urge coming on to rock a lip color, top, pair of shoes, or with have you thats a little quirky or out of the box, go with it!

3.¬†DON’T OVERDO IT

This brings me into my next rule of thumb. DO NOT OVERDO IT. As I said before, nothing is wrong with being a little risky with your fashion, however you don’t want to take too many risks or try too many unconventional methods at once. For example, trying a really bold orange lip while at the same time trying a glittery green eye. While both of those may have been cute beauty risks to take individually, together they look over the top, clownish, and simply not flattering. The same goes for too many fashion risks being taken inappropriately. You want to be fashion forward, not a reason to call the fashion police.

4.¬†BE INSPIRED (DON’T COPY)

Finally ladies, be inspired! Be inspired by all that is beautiful around you. A painting, your favorite celeb, a city street, a stylish friend, all of these can be inspiration for new additions to your style. The opportunities are endless! However, in your quest for inspiration, don’t copy. You shouldn’t try to copy someone else’s style to the tee for your own everyday looks. Especially if the person’s style you are emulating in no way shape or form resembles your own or things your eye would be drawn to for yourself (had you not seen them on the person). When you are a fashion-pretender, it shows. Someone doing this, often times will look uncomfortable and be uncomfortable. That level of confidence is just not there because you know deep down that this is just not “you” and the execution of the look subsequently is lackluster and falls flat. Fashion is about taking whats inside of you and expressing it outwardly. So absorb the¬†inspiration¬†that lies all around you, and mix it with a little of your own spunk to make it a look that beams with originality that is all your own. You can check out bloggers like the author of Simple and Aphoristic ‘s or the author of IntoTheStratosphere ‘s style for inspiration.

Remember these fashion musts as a guide for finding and evolving your style. Take the poll below to tell me which rule you think is the most important or if you have a rule you think should be added to the list, let me know in the comments below!

Until Next Time !
