Woman Crush Wednesday: Rihanna Bares it All

Hola, Spiiirits!

At the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 2nd, Rihanna bared it all in a completely sheer crystal-net floor length gown that was custom made by designer Adam Selman. Well “bared it all” may be a little too forward…she did have a flesh tone thong on that beautiful bod. Talk about shining bright like a diamond, Rih!

Rih paid homage to the Josephine Baker era in this floor length frock, which hosted 230, 000 Swarovski crystals.

Now of course Rih’s bold, nude (or at least mostly nude) expression, has brought much backlash. (Instagram even, to my knowledge, removed her page because of it, TUH!) However, I am here to say that I am in support of this fashion choice!

First of all, Rihanna looks beautiful and her body is to D-I-E for in this dress. Second, why is it that women have to be ashamed of their bodies? These bodies (male or female) are blessings from Source, so why is it we cannot honor them as such? Rihanna is a young woman in her prime finding strength in her femininity, versus the shame that is so readily taught, and I applaud her for that. (BTW this is not the first time Rih has worn something sheer in public that exposes her breasts nor that she’s been photographed topless. So I don’t understand why this time is SO much more of a big deal than the others).

Also, I am a believer in the #freethenipple movement. It is simply the gender roles set by a patriarchal society that allow for a man to freely be topless, nipple exposed, but shame a woman for the thought of the same thing. Even though the chest scientifically contains the same visible make up. While I love clothing, I just don’t think nudity should be so frowned upon. It is after all, our original form. We are taught to be ashamed of and hide our root physical form and then we wonder why we find it hard to love ourselves.

Remember, God made the naked form. Man, made clothing. That’s all I’m saying…

BUT…I’m really curious to know you guys’ opinion on Rih’s outfit and public displays of nudity as a whole. Do you agree with Rih’s #freethenipple approach or do you think she should have covered up for the awards?

Let me know!

The Hunger Games – Jennifer Lawrence on Fire

I don’t think anyone knows just how much I love the Hunger Games. I love the trilogy so much that, before there was even word of a first movie, my sister and I bought two Hunger Games shirts (mine says “Down with the Capitol” tehe) , a mockingjay pin, and a mockingjay necklace, between us. When the first movie came out, I went (suited in my HG gear and all) to see it immediately. Epic trilogy, man. Awesome societal parallels. & anyone who really knows me, knows of my deep love for dystopian fiction…

That’s why it’s really killing me that I can’t go see Catching Fire tonight. That’s right, Hunger Games Fan #1 is in for the night and stuck NOT watching the much awaited second movie, which made it’s way into theaters on this beloved day. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

However, I am not one to dwell on the bad, so on a more positive note… Did you guys see what Jennifer Lawrence wore to the premiere earlier this week???

Oh yes, little Miss Everdeen was quite the “Girl on Fire” on the red carpet in her Christian Dior 2013 Haute Couture Gown. I think she really rocked this look. It was daring, sexy, and classy all at the same time. And her new blonde pixie cut + red lip combo was the cherry on top! Check it out…talk about dressed to kill.

I’m Back! + June Wishlist

Hello fellow fashionerrds, oh how I’ve missed ya!! I’ve been dealing with a lot, with graduation coming in August (along with a move to California immediately after), constant preparation for that, then there is summer school, and job transitions, and trying to run FS and everything in between. I’ve just been swamped! But I didn’t forget about you guys and I’m glad to be back to y’all and back to blogging. *sigh* There’s no place like home.

Here’s a couple items I’ve been lusting over this month….

WristCandy

Wrist Candy

Watches, bracelets and wrist candy of all sorts has really been calling out to me lately. I’ve always liked bracelets but haven’t really worn any in awhile. Recently they’ve just been calling out to me! I’m really loving chain bracelets and interesting stackable ones. Slave bracelets are also to die for, I’m looking to add some really interesting ones to my arsenal, REAL soon.

Maxi Skirts

I’ve been loving these for a long time for sure. So sassy and easily chic, and usually quite comfortable. They have been a go-to in my arsenal thus far this summer and I need more, more, more! Oh & if someone wants to purchase the crotcheted Alice & Olivia number pictured above for me as an early graduation present, I wouldn’t be at all opposed.

 Fingers-Tattoo

Finger Tatts

I have been infatuated with these lately. I have two finger tatts that I want. Not nearly as extensive as the ones pictured above, though they are beautiful. I just want two little symbols, but I can’t wait to get ’em. Finger tatts are cool as shit! Add tattoos to the list of things I have to save for this summer. Oh well, what can I say, I love ink!

loosepants

Loose Pants

Sheer, printed, pleated, lightly more fitted, or totally wide and baggy, I love them all! These pants are all the rage and not to mention just as super comfortable and easily chic as maxi skirts..if not, dare I say it, even more so. I’ve been finding a lot of nice ones at thrift stores, but you can never have too many! I want a hefty collection of these before I move to Cali.

playsuits

Playsuits

Rompers, pantsuits, jumpsuits, and the like.I have a couple nice rompers, but not any jumpsuits yet (a fact that needs to change, SOON).  These things are to die for! Like so chic, need I say more?

Janelle Monae Inspired Hair

Hello my lovelies, Jaz here! I was watching natural hair videos, as I sometimes do in my limited free time, and I stumbled across an interesting video from one of the naturals I am subscribed to. The video was by LoveIslandBeauty and its a vid for Janelle Monae Inspired Hair. The style looked absolutely stunning on miss Jo Michelle and I was dying to try it! However I had in my twist and wasnt quite ready to take them out yet, sooooo I used my Mommie as a guinea pig and tried the style out on her! I think it came out quite well and I want you guys to be the judge. Check out the video by LoveIslandBeauty and a few pics of the style on my mom below.

This style was done on stretched out natural hair. I can’t wait to try this on myself. What do you guys think??

The Five S’s of Summer

Hey dolls ! I am here with the top 5 things a fashionista just can’t do without for the summer. Let’s get right to it !

The Sunnies

Image

Sunnies are the ultimate summer accessory! They shield your eyes from the blinding rays while making you look glam. Pick up a pair in a bright, fun color, cool shape or funky print, or go for the classic-style shade. Whatever suits your style!

The Summer Dress

Image

Dresses are ideal for summer time, especially the one with a flirty cut and tropical-esque floral print like the one above. Whether mini, midi, or maxi, when selecting a summer dress, make sure it is flattering to your figure and has breathable material and cut for the warm weather. The floral print blouson dress above is from Forever 21 and costs $24.80.

The Swim Wear

Image

C’mon, its summer! You gotta have a little fun in the sun, and that usually involves getting wet. Whether for a trip to the beach, or the neighborhood pool, you gotta be ready to pull out your swimsuit at a moments notice. There is a vast variety of cute popular swimsuit cuts for Summer 2012. From the retro cut to the one shoulder, be sure to pick the swimsuit that will be most flattering to your body type. It’s the best way to ensure you will be confident and avoid embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions.

The Shorts

Image

Who wears short shorts? We wear shorts! Its summer, its hot, and you can’t wear pants all the time. Embrace the heat with shorts. You can wear basic denim cut-offs or switch it up some shorts with a quirky print. The ones above are shorts by The Pretty Junk from Asos Marketplace & cost $83.60.

The Sandals

Sandals are a definite summer staple. Feel free to show off that fresh pedi in some strappy open-toed kicks! My advice is to stock up on as many pairs as you can because they are the one thing you will probably wear everyday of the summer, or close to.  This pair is from Forever 21 and is only $12.80!

Until Next Time!

Star Style Profile : Solange Knowles

Today I am shining the spotlight on one stylish starlett: Solange Knowles. Solange’s style is the epitome of eclectic, eccentricity. She is the queen of mixing prints and she is never afraid to step outside of the box with her wardrobe. Lets admire her style a moment shall we?

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

This songstress is one fearless fashionista, who exibits no-holds-barred style everytime she steps out.

How to Achieve Solange-Style :

1. Go bold with color (Solange almost always has on at least one bold color, whether in her wardrobe or makeup)

2. Mix Prints (If thats a daunting task for you, you can find a little help here)

3. Get funky up top (Most times this Sol-Angel is either rockin’ a funky-fresh headwrap or big volumized hair)

4. Take Fashion Risks (Don’t go with the norm ! )

I love, love, love Solange’s funky and eclectic style ! Don’t you?

Until Next Time!
