I don’t think anyone knows just how much I love the Hunger Games. I love the trilogy so much that, before there was even word of a first movie, my sister and I bought two Hunger Games shirts (mine says “Down with the Capitol” tehe) , a mockingjay pin, and a mockingjay necklace, between us. When the first movie came out, I went (suited in my HG gear and all) to see it immediately. Epic trilogy, man. Awesome societal parallels. & anyone who really knows me, knows of my deep love for dystopian fiction…
That’s why it’s really killing me that I can’t go see Catching Fire tonight. That’s right, Hunger Games Fan #1 is in for the night and stuck NOT watching the much awaited second movie, which made it’s way into theaters on this beloved day. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
However, I am not one to dwell on the bad, so on a more positive note… Did you guys see what Jennifer Lawrence wore to the premiere earlier this week???
Oh yes, little Miss Everdeen was quite the “Girl on Fire” on the red carpet in her Christian Dior 2013 Haute Couture Gown. I think she really rocked this look. It was daring, sexy, and classy all at the same time. And her new blonde pixie cut + red lip combo was the cherry on top! Check it out…talk about dressed to kill.
What do you guys think of Jennifer Lawrence’s premiere look?
Doesn’t Marilyn look beautiful? Gotta Love Miss Monroe. And the style of swimsuits that were popular in her hay-day are making a major comeback in Summer 2012. Many designers are creating fashionable one pieces cut similar to the one she is wearing while others immolate the style in bikinis by using bandeau style halter bikini tops and high-waisted bottoms. The retro style is very complimentary to a curvy shape, accentuating curves without making them look bulbous or slutty and the extra fabric that comes in a swimsuit style like this does well to hide any major problem areas you might have. Retro style swimsuits are very chic and trendy right now and they are a great way to look fab while being comfortable in your own skin at the beach this season. Here are a couple of cute ones I’ve found.
I’m thinking of trying a retro swimsuit this season, what about you? Do you like them or do you think they are more granny than chic? Share your opinions in the comments below !
Whether it be a peter pan style (like the one above) for my girly-girls or a fierce, pointed style for my edgier ladies, the use of collars to emphasize the neckline have come back in a major way. The focus on collars has been seen on teen actress Hailee Steinfeld and various other fashionable celebs.
(embellished collars like these are all the rage)
This trend doesn’t just stop at shirts. Many collar necklaces have also begun to pop up as a way of adding a fierce statement collar to any outfit.
Lastly, the most creative and affordable way people are embracing this trend is through DIY. Many have opted to cut the collars off of old button downs and embellish them, using them as necklaces.
The collar trend is one that can be embraced in almost any style, from classic to rocker chic. And with so many options, collar-style can be embraced on practically any budget! This is a trend-win in my book.
So I was playing around on Polyvore today and I made a few summery outfits that I would love to share with you guys, along with a few reasons these combos are just right for the warmer weather. Hopefully these looks inspire you and give you some ideas that boost your personal 2012 summer style.
Can’t go wrong with a maxi-dress, like ever! This green maxi paired with a statement necklace is an effortlessly cool combo, making you look stylish without trying to hard. Combined with the sun hat as a trendy way to protect from the sun’s rays, in this look, you are ready for a day of fun in the sun.
This look is the perfect balance of grunge and girly, The distressed, studded jean shorts and the grunge-style rings, bring the edge to the outfit, while the cool blue color of the sheer top and the floral oxford shoes keeps the look feminine. Not to mention that sparkly collar, to die for!
Colored jeans and aztec print, need I say more???? Both are really big this summer and they really compliment each other in this combo. The jeans provide just the right, bright pop of color and the aztec print makes the look funky and fun! Gold accessories accent the look.
Effortless and boho-chic come to mind when I look at this outfit combo. The cut of the skirt and the slouchy white tank give a relaxed vibe. The denim vest and gold jewelry pull it all together by keeping it from giving and overly relaxed vibe but keeping it simple and laid back. The best part about this look in my opinion? The neon, waterfall skirt. Neon, IN. Waterfall cut, IN. and for good reason. Also, the turquoise pop of color in the cuff seemed very complimentary to the neon skirt in one of those ways you can’t explain. You just know its right.
I love everyone of these summer looks! Of course I may be slightly biased since I created them. However, I believe they capture the essence of this summer’s style. Which one was your favorite? Comment & let me know!
Color will always be a big trend for the Spring and Summer months. Its only right, as the weather brightens up, so does our wardrobe ! As we segue from Spring to Summer one big color trend that’s emerging is Neon. Whether its on a bag or boldly slathered on our nails, Neon is a must-have in our fashion arsenal. Here are a few items on my neon-wishlist for the season :
These bold pink “South of 5th” sunnies from Urban Outfitters are perfect for the season! Wear them with any outfit for a bit of neon flare. They run about $16 and they are cat-eye glasses, a trend bonus!
Taking summer school maybe? I am, and Lord knows I will need a way to carry around my books. I could just use one of the handy shoulder bags I already own (that’s probably what i’ll actually do), but in my fashion fantasy land I’m walking around the campus with this baby on my back. I’m not too often a fan of backpacks, but this one screams chic.On sale for $29.99, this Baggu Neon Backpack can be purchased on fredflare.com. Lastly this bag was made from 100% recycled cotton canvas, an environmental plus!
With its sassy cut and neon accents, this dress has just the right amount of spice. Perfect for a night out, it’s $29.90 and can be found on windsorstore.com
Neon polish, oh yeahh! Probably the cheapest way to sport the neon trend, this nail polish and others like it only run about $4 and can be found in drugstores and your local Walmarts’ and Targets. I will definitely be getting some and putting it into effect ASAP!
Spring is Here!!!! *Yayyyyy* and these are the patterns & prints I am loving for embracing this season
This pattern is perfect for Spring. It’s part of the nautical trend that is becoming very popular right now. Stripes are very versatile. They can be used for a more polished streamlined style or a fun carefree look, depending on how you dress them. Another bonus for stripes is that they can flatter your body shape. If you want to make your body look slimmer opt for thinner, vertical stripes. For my girls with less curves than they desire, you can wear thicker, horizontal stripes to make you look wider in certain areas. Try a striped maxi dress like the one above from forever21.com. Its only $14.80.
Polka dots are just fun fun fun! This print is definitely a must have for spring, especially when it comes in pastel colors. The oversized top pictured above is from acidlace.com, a vintage site based in the UK. It is priced for 15euros and would look great with high-waisted white shorts or a pair of tights.
Aztec print is definitely a spring print for my ladies with funkier style. The tribal-inspired print usually brings together a variety of colors and geometric shapes to create something that is eclectic and stylish. For instance this beautiful Aztec scarf from thestellarboutique.com. It is 14euros and features a series of bold colors that come together in a way that is somehow cohesive and chic. That’s the beauty of Aztec!
Lace is a pattern that is really in for any season, but in bright colors is especially fab for spring. The breathable material gives a flirty, girly edge to any outfit and when worn correctly, is a perfect testament to the light-brightness of springtime. Check out the yellow lace shorts above, aren’t they to die for? They would be perfect paired with a white cami, a denim vest, and a statement necklace. Oh yeahhh.
Last but not least an obvious choice for spring, floral print! In this season, flowers are blooming and the world is coming to life again; what wonderful inspiration for fashion. For springtime, I definitely recommend florals with pastel color schemes, however the more it warms up, the more tropical you can get with the colors and shapes of your florals. The floral chiffon tank blouse pictured above is from chictopia.com and is $38.00. The black gives an edgier take on springtime but the colors of the flowers keep the outfit bright and right for the season.
Which is your favorite of these prints? Vote below!
Hola my fellow fashion nerds! This is my first post & I want to give you guys the goods. I have for you today a list of very important and timeless principles to fashion that, in my opinion, can be useful to you all for the rest of your lives. I encourage you all to add this page to your fashion bibles. Here goes!!
1. BE CONFIDENT
Confidence is one of the most cardinal keys to fashion. You have to believe in you if you want anyone else to. By that, I mean whatever you have on, however you have your hair styled, etc. you have to rock it with pride and know that you are a stylish diva in your own right. Everyone is not going to like what items you choose or the way you style them, but you can’t let that shake you. Its all about the way you feel! When you feel confident it exudes in your walk, your stance, and your outfit. No outfit looks as good if you forget to put your “confidence hat” on!
2. BE A RISK TAKER
Now I take into account that everyone is not going to be as risque’ as some celebs or those in the fashion industry (partially because some of the styles are just not practical for everyday wear), however with this new found confidence, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone sometimes. If there is an item or style you really like but its not necessarily trending at the moment, that is not an automatic reason to shy away. If you take that risk you may be able to style it in a way that is trendy and hip, yet still original, allowing you to step out of the crowd and closer to your own personal style. Besides, how do you guys think a lot of new trends get discovered or old trends get resurrected? Somebody took a risk and it caught on. So next time you feel the urge coming on to rock a lip color, top, pair of shoes, or with have you thats a little quirky or out of the box, go with it!
3. DON’T OVERDO IT
This brings me into my next rule of thumb. DO NOT OVERDO IT. As I said before, nothing is wrong with being a little risky with your fashion, however you don’t want to take too many risks or try too many unconventional methods at once. For example, trying a really bold orange lip while at the same time trying a glittery green eye. While both of those may have been cute beauty risks to take individually, together they look over the top, clownish, and simply not flattering. The same goes for too many fashion risks being taken inappropriately. You want to be fashion forward, not a reason to call the fashion police.
4. BE INSPIRED (DON’T COPY)
Finally ladies, be inspired! Be inspired by all that is beautiful around you. A painting, your favorite celeb, a city street, a stylish friend, all of these can be inspiration for new additions to your style. The opportunities are endless! However, in your quest for inspiration, don’t copy. You shouldn’t try to copy someone else’s style to the tee for your own everyday looks. Especially if the person’s style you are emulating in no way shape or form resembles your own or things your eye would be drawn to for yourself (had you not seen them on the person). When you are a fashion-pretender, it shows. Someone doing this, often times will look uncomfortable and be uncomfortable. That level of confidence is just not there because you know deep down that this is just not “you” and the execution of the look subsequently is lackluster and falls flat. Fashion is about taking whats inside of you and expressing it outwardly. So absorb the inspiration that lies all around you, and mix it with a little of your own spunk to make it a look that beams with originality that is all your own. You can check out bloggers like the author of Simple and Aphoristic ‘s or the author of IntoTheStratosphere ‘s style for inspiration.
