Anybody who knows me personally knows how much I love my tea. Tea time is an integral part of the day! The start of April also kickstarts our Goddess Body Cleanse Teatox! This cleanse, created by Angela Elizabeth, is designed to cleanse the body of toxins and catapult your body’s ability physically, mentally, and emotionally rejuvenate. Ingesting the cleanse teas daily will be the easy part, but eating mostly raw…that’ll be quite the interesting, (hopefully fun) challenge. I love to cook! For Day 1 I had the Mind & Spirit Herbal Blend in the morning before a nice meditation. Then I caught a few tender moments of bed peace before work with the Healthy Yoni Herbal Blend around midday. I’ve discovered its pretty good in smoothies as well. Recipes coming soon! We ended the night with the Cleansing Tea before bed. Triiinity and I are def looking forward to Spring Cleaning our temples with Goddess Body .

Goddess BodTEA: Goddess Body Herbal Blends

 Hello Spiiirits!

Time for a quick review of amazing holistic products!

(Don’t those always make you happy? They sure put a smile on my face 🙂 )

Specifically we’ll be talking about the Herbal Blends that Goddess Body sent to our home. Anybody who knows me, KNOWS how much I LOVE tea!! So tasty, medicinal, & relaxing! The lovely Angela Elizabeth sent two kinds: The Mind & Spirit Herbal Blend and the Hair, Skin, & Nails Herbal Blend.

TEAms

Mind & Spirit: This blend contains natural  ingredients that are great for the nervous system like Gotu Kola & Yerba Mate. The intention of this blend is to enhance energy, focus, & concentration/attention, while also stimulating and strengthening ones third eye (consequently enhancing ones level of enlightenment). This tea definitely does what it boasts. After drinking it, I find my mind filled with clarity & deepened perspective. Triiin has even said she feels increased energy radiating from my crown, after ingesting this blend (sort of like a giant, well charged crystal). This blend is delicious hot or cold. I think this is a great blend to drink before you have to do anything that requires mental attention or stimulation. I think this blend is also perfect for those days when you are feeling so well.

TEAhsn

Hair Skin & Nails: This fragrant  blend contains one of my favorite flowers! Hibiscus! Hibiscus is great for the cardiovascular system & has blood cleansing properties. Featuring Rosemary, Mullen & plenty other health & beauty enhancing ingredients, I love the texture the blend has to it. And the benefits are AH-mazing, blessing its user with a nourished scalp, stronger roots, sustained growth, stronger nails, reduced blemishes, detoxified skin, for all around healthy hair, skin, and nails from inside out. This blend is delicious hot or cold as well, and (in my opinion) has a good flavor to be blended into fruity smoothies.

(Tea comes in 4oz packs with a tea ball infuser, Both blends are 100% natural & 100% vegan)

I truly can’t choose my favorite out of the two! That tea ball infuser that comes with each blend is a Godsend as well! I love it so much. It makes making using blends or fresh herbs/roots, etc. for teas a WORLD easier.

Angela Elizabeth of Goddess Body has a MS in Biology and her holistic blends are the TRUTH. Not only Mind & Spirit and Hair, Skin & Nails herbal blends are available, but Yoni Goddess blend, Fibroid & Cyst blend, and many more delicious, holistic, healing blends!

Check out GoddessBody.org to try these, or any of the amazing blends available for purchase!

Spiritual Sundays: Sun Salutations

Greetings Spiiirits!

So as many of you may, or may not, already know…I practice yoga. I am self-taught and definitely somewhere between beginner and intermediate, but I am forever increasing in knowledge and skill daily. 🙂

Yoga is such an amazing practice, for your mind, body, and spirit. It has numerous positive effects on all areas of your being, helping you to become more balanced in every regard. Each pose not only targets a certain area of focus physically, but also has history and spiritual implications tied along with it as well. It is important to be aware of the spiritual connections to each motion as a means of setting your intention for each step of your practice, and thereby getting the full benefit of the poses.

Which leads me to the Sun Salutation. Its more or less a sequence of poses and, though done by those at all levels, it is vastly popular among many beginner yogis. Rightfully so, as it is a delicious mind, body, & spirit warm-up and pretty do-able for those at any level. As I said before, it is important to a full and proper practice, to know the history and spiritual importance of each pose/sequence you do. Being as though the Sun Salutation is so popular and perfect for beginner yogis, I think its a marvelous place to start in making sure we are fully informed. So here’s a little info and I hope it proves useful! ❤

THE SUN SALUTATION

The original Hindu name is Surya Namaskar, Surya meaning “the sun” and Namaskar coming from the root word namas which means “to bow or “to adore”.

Hindus have revered the Sun for thousands of years. They see the Sun as the physical and spiritual heart of our world and the creator of all life itself….an image of, and pathway to the divine.

The sequence begins and ends with a mudra (joined-hands) at the heart center. This is no coincidence as the Hindus see the heart as our own “inner sun”, the seat of our consciousness and higher wisdom. The mind can be corrupted by viparyaya (misconception), but only the heart can know the truth.

The sequence consists of the following basic poses (but poses can be varied for increased difficulty): Mountain Pose, Upward Salute, Forward Fold, Lunge, Plank Pose, Four-Limbed Staff Pose, Cobra Pose, Downward Dog

…ending back in Mountain Pose with hands joined over heart center.

Here’s a video that shows a good visual example of the Sun Salutation in action.

If you practice yoga or are planning to start practicing yoga, I would definitely suggest doing Sun Salutations and taking this knowledge into your practice! I don’t know about you guys, but doing the sequence with this information in mind, definitely makes me feel even more connected and inspired, in motion.

The Sun is within you, spiiirits, and so is the truth!

Body of a Goddess: Goddess Body Wellness

Greetings, Dear Spiiirits!

Those of you who follow me on my various social media know that I have been promising a review on the holistic products Triiin & I received from Goddess Body! Now the time has finally come for me to give you guys my full and honest assessment.

But first a little intro to Goddess Body…

Goddess Body Wellness is a brand of holistic health & beauty products created by Goddess Angela Elizabeth. Angela Elizabeth is a Master Herbalist, Holistic Health Practitioner, & Spiritual Advisor with a Masters of Science in Biology. Through her Goddess Body brand, she offers herbal teas & remedies, natural skin & haircare products, plant based nutrition and holistic health regimens.

True to her holistic roots, her products are all-natural, vegan products.

The Goddess Body products that were sent into our home by the lovely Angela Elizabeth were the CAS Toning Balm & the Yoni Oil.

gb1 gb2

CAS Toning Balm: The CAS Toning Balm is a blend that clears and smooths skin, targeting cellulite, fatty deposits. The CAS in name stands for Coffee, Aloe, & Shea. The topical caffeine from the coffee widens blood vessels, improving circulation and the removal of toxins, fluid, and fat. Aloe is renown for its amazing skin moisturizing, tightening, and regenerative properties. Vitamin A & E dense shea butter is a superb moisturizer with healing properties for skin and hair. So knowing that these are the 3 main ingredients, you already know that this concoction is primed for greatness…and it did not disappoint! The product is packaged into a glass container. You get a pretty sizable amount of product, especially when you take into account the consistency which is thick but spreads easily (and doesn’t take a lot of product to cover a pretty good amount of space). The balm smells delicious giving the wearer a light citrus scent. Due to all the natural oils, the balm is oily on your skin if over applied, so be careful (but like I said you don’t need too much). Immediately after application, my skin felt soft and supple and remained that way throughout the entire day. After no more than a week of using this product daily, I noticed an increased natural sheen and glow to my skin. This amplified natural sheen and glow remained even on days when I skipped using the product. Though I don’t have a ton of marks and blemishes, I did notice the marks I do have begin to substantially lighten to blend more and more with my skin. I absolutely love this balm!

Yoni Oil: Yoni is the Sanskrit word for Divine Passage, Vagina, Womb, Sacred Temple…you get the picture. It’s our blessed and sacred lady bits, Goddesses, and yoni oil is a prime holistic asset for keeping the precious vagina working to Goddess-standard. Yoni oil contains a combination of oils such as tea tree oil and neem oil as well as delicious herbs lemongrass and sage. These oils and herbs (as well as the numerous others present in the blend) combine to create the perfect potion for feminine yoni health. The oil has the capability to restore balance, acting as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal antidote. The combo also strengthens and tones the vaginal walls while encouraging healthy lubrication as well. It also can be used as a healthy natural lube, itself. With daily application, I observed a notable increase in the lubrication and strength of my own yoni since beginning to use this oil back in May. I feel that the increase in vaginal strength has caused my menstrual cycle to complete more quickly (since I can expel more at once). The oil, as well as healthy eating practices, has also decreased to the number of painful days in my cycle to one. Lastly it has a delicious lemongrass-y scent and can be effectively used on, not only your yoni, but your skin & hair as well. I haven’t actually tried the oil on my hair yet, but the anti-bacterial properties work wonderfully on skin (especially when a pimple surfaces up! It’ll get rid of that sucker in a flash). Triiin has pretty sensitive face skin when it comes to which products she can use and she swears by this oil for her face! This is definitely a new staple product in our lives.

These worked out so phenomenally, I can’t wait to try more Goddess Body products! I’d definitely recommend the CAS Toning Balm and the Yoni Oil to any woman ready to channel her inner Goddess! (Plus the holistic products are universally good for skin and hair, so men you can use them too!)

Spiritual Sundays: How to Meditate (5 Easy Steps)

Greetings & Happy Sunday, Spiiirits!

meditationblogAT

Meditation is a vital component for self-awareness and spiritual growth. The practice of meditation brings with it not only spiritual benefits, but mental and physical benefits as well. After educating myself on meditation and its many benefits, as well as beginning to experience some of the benefits myself, I believe meditation should be practiced by every human being on the planet, daily, in some shape or form. This would be beneficial, not only for each individual, but for all mankind collectively.

Many stray away from meditating because they don’t have a complete idea of what it is or how to do it. And we can all agree that Mother Culture has taught us to fear what we do not know/understand. But meditation should not be something we remain in the dark about any longer. And it should be something everyone knows how to do.

Feeling as such, I have decided to compile a basic how-to guide to meditation. Nothing too stressful, a couple of quick steps…so easy a caveman could do it! 😀

Step 1 – Find Your Meditation Location. Find a private spot where you feel safe and comfortable. The spot should be quiet and free from external distractions. This can range from a bedroom, a bathroom, a closet, a spot in your backyard, etc. just anywhere where you can create a comfortable, quiet, uninterrupted moment for yourself.

Step 2 – Get Comfortable. Once you have secured your meditation location, find a spot and get comfy. You may sit in a chair or on the floor. You may also lie down, though it is easier to accidentally fall asleep this way. Just choose the position that is most comfortable for you. But be sure that, no matter how you choose to sit, you keep your posture upright as to properly facilitate the flow of energy. Make sure to clear the exact spot where you plan to meditate of any clutter. Many people use crystals to amplify their meditative sessions. If you have crystals or some other object pertaining to the meditation, it is fine to keep those near you. Also, if you become uncomfortable at any later point in the meditation you can mildly maneuver. However, for best results, movement should be kept to a minimum.

Step 3 – Decide the Time Frame. Once you begin the act of meditating, it is easy for time to pass without you being aware how much of it has gone by. While some may just let the meditation lead them and just get up whenever they feel “done”, this may not be the  best move for a beginner. You also don’t want to find yourself inclined to think about time at all during the act of meditation, as this may just make you figity, and bring stress that draws attention away from your meditation. The best way to avoid this is to predetermine a time limit. This can be done by setting a timer or alarm. 30 minutes is a good amount of time to meditate, though you should feel free to do more or less. Guided meditations are another good way to decide the time frame of your meditation, but more on that later.

Step 4- Breathe & Observe. Close your eyes.  Now its time to get into the groove of actual meditation. Take deep breaths, fully inhaling and fully exhaling. Now begin to clear your mind. You can do this by focusing on your breaths or by counting to 100 in your mind as you continue to breathe. Thoughts will come during this time, but it is your job not to engage with any of these thoughts. You are to separate yourself from the thoughts, simply becoming a passive observer of them. It is important in this moment not to classify the thoughts that come as good or bad, or really respond to the thought in anyway. Don’t delve into the thought, don’t analyze it. Simply observe the thought as it passes and then send it away.

Step 5 – |END| Return to the Physical Realm. The alarm (or whatever timer you have put in place) sounds, signaling that the time has come to draw your meditation to a close. DO NOT just bounce up hurriedly. Slowly ease into the physical state of being. Start off by mentally becoming aware, again, of where you are physically. Next become aware of your physical body. Wiggle your toes, yawn, stretch. Then slowly open your eyes and re-accustom to your surroundings. It is important to do this because shifting modes too rapidly can be discombobulating. However this whole process need not take longer than one minute. Now you can get up, move about, and carry on with your day! Some people, alternatively, choose to remain in their spot and reflect upon the meditation or send silent gratitude into the Universe. This is perfectly fine as well. Go with how you feel! (which after a meditation, is usually GRRREEEAAAATTTT! 😉 )

***Quick Tip***- I mentioned guided meditations in step 3. Guided meditations are a great tool for beginners! (and pros, alike, if you ask me). They are perfect for giving those who have trouble clearing their mind, on their own, something to focus on. There are also guided meditations that cater to specific areas (such as balance, prosperity, healing, etc.). And with guided meditations ranging from as short as 10 minutes to as long as 2 hours, they can be perfect for deciding the time frame for how long you want to meditate, as well as what aspects of your being you are primarily want to focus on in each session.

Hope these tips prove helpful to you guys. Happy Meditating, Spiiirits!

Vegetarian Delights: Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Burger & Sides

Greetings Lovely Spiiirits

Sending good vibes to every single one of you…right…NOW!

As you all may know, in my household, we are pescetarians moving toward vegetarianism. Therefore, it is not uncommon that we will have completely vegetarian meals. On last Tuesday night, Triiin & I used teamwork to make a lovely meatless meal that I’d love to share with you guys! We made a delicious Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Burger with Fried Jalapenos & Bean n Cheese topped French Fries. And lemme tell ya, it was to die for!

pmbblogheader

Ingredients:

2 Portobello Mushrooms, Fresh Spinach, 1 Tomato, Fresh Garlic, 1 Onion, 3 Potatoes, 2 Fresh Jalapenos, Beans (any kind), 4 slices Whole Wheat Bread, Pepper Jack Cheese, Vegetable Oil, Butter, Garlic Salt, Parsley, Garlic Powder, Yellow Mustard, Flour, Cornmeal

Steps to Deliciousness:

1st we marinated the mushrooms in flavor. We coated it with a light layer of oil and seasoned it with garlic salt, parsley, mustard, and garlic powder. We let them sit and gain flavor for 30 minutes while we did other prep.

After this 30 minute period was over, we placed the mushrooms gill side up to prepare them for stuffing. You can gut the gills out of the mushroom if you want, but I think that’s a straight up waste of mushroom “meat”, personally! I’d only remove the inside if I was going to stuff the mushroom with more & heftier ingredients than the ones we chose for this recipe. We cut up the tomato and the onion as well as some fresh garlic and began stuffing the mushrooms with it. We also took some fresh spinach from the bag (how many leaves, I’m not sure) and stuffed the mushrooms with them as well. Once the ‘shrooms appeared to have a good amount of stuffing, we used a couple spinach leaves to seal in the stuffing, laying them over and tucking in the corners. After this, we placed them in a small metal pan with a couple tablespoons of oil (2-3) to ensure they didn’t stick. We covered the pan and placed the mushrooms in the oven on 350 degrees, for 20 – 25 minutes.

 pmbblog1pmbblog2pmbblog3

For the fries, we took the 3 potatoes and cut them into fry-shaped slices. They were coated with mustard (as a flavoring and sticking agent), Tony Chacheres, garlic powder, & garlic salt. Then we placed them into a mixture of cornmeal & flour, being sure to get a good coating on each. The method for the fried jalapenos is quite similar. We cut them into ring shapes, flavored them with mustard, garlic powder, and garlic salt, and coated them effectively in the flour/cornmeal mixture. (Make sure to remove the seeds from the jalapenos to the best of your ability to avoid a spicy bum later, lol.) We heated up a pot of oil on medium to high heat and “deep fried”, so to speak, the fries and the jalapenos until they begin to float to the top & had the color we wanted. Then we removed them and put them in a strainer lined with napkins, to remove excess grease.

pmbblog4 pmbblog5 pmbblog6 pmbblog7 pmbblog8

Using butter, oil, parsley, and garlic powder, we made the toast  for the ‘shroom burgers in a skillet. We heated up the ingredients and flip flopped the toast in the pan until it was around the color and firmness that we wanted. Simple. Then we grated the pepperjack cheese onto the bread and spread barbecue and balsamic mayo onto them. We placed the stuffed mushrooms onto their perspective breads, closed the top of the sandwich and voila!

pmbblog9 pmbblog10

After the fries were done, (though already quite delicious), there was still a tiny bit more work to do to prepare them to be the perfectly topped side for this dish. We heated up some leftover beans we happened to still have from dinner another day. (These were beans made from scratch, but never fear! You can use a can as well, for similar quick & easy results). We heated them on medium heat via the stovetop (we don’t even own a microwave, actually), and were careful to keep watch over them as to ensure they didn’t dry out in the reheating process. Once the beans were heated to a good temperature, we spread them evenly over the fries and grated some good ‘ol pepperjack cheese on top.

Le’ Results

Connected & Inspired: Superior Life Energy

sleblog

Hello & Good Day Free Spiiirits of the World.

How are you all on this lovely day?..Well it’s a beautiful day, today in SoCal. One of the few beautiful days I have had completely free for a while (for a number of reasons). With the birds chirping, the breeze blowing, and the sun high in the sky, a wave of inspiration has come over me and prompted me to write. So, here I am 🙂

Okay sooooo, raise your hands if you like crystals!

*raises hand*

If you don’t like ’em, ya truly don’t know what your missing. Do a little research and you’ll find that crystals have many physical & metaphysical properties that can be of benefit to your body, mind, and soul.

Its been a little over a month since I received two very special crystal pieces from Superior Life Energy and it’s time I gave them a full review.

The Pyramid of Contemplation & The Pendant of Creativity

The Pyramid of Contemplation: This piece is an exquisite Orgone pyramid who’s shape and contents provide much spiritual power. The pyramid boasts a combination of Agate, Green Aventurine, Blue Aventurine, Mookaite Jasper, Seashells, and Reiki Seeds. Superior Life Energy owner, LaQuan Williams named this piece for the very relaxing state that it induced when he would stare into it. In my experience with this piece, it seems to be a powerful connector to the spiritual realm. Before receiving the pyramid, I was having trouble with my dream recall. I am usually quite a dreamer and quite strong with dream recall but I had a short stint (maybe 2 months) of time where I had to go without fluoride-free toothpaste. (Thank God that’s over!) I think the temporarily increased fluoride consumption had some negative affects which manifested in my dream-life. After receiving the Pyramid, the second night I slept with it near my bed, I had an extremely powerful dream, the full contents of which I remembered impeccably the next morning. In this dream, I met an alien who is more than likely one of my spirit guides. The time spent with the alien spirit guide was such a beautiful experience and I could truly feel the all-encompassing love of God radiating from the being. I was very interested to find later, in my research of this Orgone pyramid’s contents, that the spiritual energy of Blue Aventurine helps to attune you to guidance from higher realms and begin to perceive your spiritual gifts. And Mookaite Jasper, can help connect one with ancestor spirits to give intuitive understanding. Coincidence? I think not. About 3 weeks passed and I also had a lucid dream in which not only did I have a conscious memory of another (previous) dream, realize I was dreaming at present (with one of the manifestations of my sub-conscious literally saying it), but I maintained control long enough to turn a door knob and open a door within the dream before waking up. The Pyramid of Contemplation not only restored my dream recall but amplified my dream abilities, thereby my dream experiences.

Lucy, The Pendant of Creativity: Lucy, gets her name from me. She contains Amethyst, Red Jasper, Carnelian, and Hematite I did my darnedest not to look up anything about her before I wore her. I truly wanted to see how she made me feel without any previous bias from the research and then see how that measured up with the benefits each component was supposed to provide. ( I try to make a habit of that. It provides the most true results.) I wore her out into life one day. Actually it was the first time Triiin & I visited Santee Alley. Halfway throughout the day as I was getting a feel for my pendant I realized I had been making musical beats in my head all day, writing, and being constantly inspired. Not that these aren’t things that I normally do, but i seemed to happening at an increased level. Whether it was musical ideas or ideas for Free Spiiirit or whatever bright idea came next, inspiration kept coming. I told Triiin decidedly “You know what, I feel more creative today. Yes…creative, is the feeling.” After researching, I found that Carnelian (which is actually the largest crystal component present in the pendant) stimulates creativity. From then on I decided that, for me, this would be the Pendant of Creativity. I named her Lucy after well….Lucy…and all the realms of possibility and inspiration that usually comes to one on a Lucy trip. Lucy is my little slice of LSD when sober, haha.

I would definitely recommend Superior Life Energy crystals to anyone interested in crystals for a spiritual reason. LaQuan Williams is a master at making perfectly powerful Orgonite combinations that could cure any metaphysical imbalance or ailment you might have. Ohhhh and they are such beauts too. Now thats a win-win. 😉

Check out more of his magnificent pieces on Instagram, Twitter, or Tumblr.

Namaste, Folks!

Gifts from the Angels: ✡ Wood Merkaba ✡

Greetings Beautiful People!

For at least the past year & a half, I have been privy to the many uses of crystals. Crystals can be used to heal on a physical and spiritual level by balancing the energy imbalances in ones aura. Crystals not only carry energy of their own but they are an amplifier of the users energy and intentions. I have been interested in the soul-healing energy of crystals ever since the knowledge of their metaphysical power and awesomeness was first presented to me. I am by no means a crystal connoisseur but I am learning more and more about individual types of crystals and their special individual uses each day.

Recently, Wood Merkaba kindly sent Triiinity & I some beautiful additions to our budding crystal collection.

wm1

(Left: Rhodonite Pendant, Right: Flourite Ring

You know, it is said by many that crystals pick where they want to go (choosing their owners and choosing when they are ready to leave them). Well when Triiin went to the Wood Merkaba store site looking for pieces, the Flourite ring, whyy this baby just opened up its link without even being clicked on. I came in the room and she showed me the site asking me (without telling me what happened) to pick the pieces that appealed to me and I picked this very piece. So we decided it was destined, the flourite ring had picked us! When we read up on the properties of flourite, we found that flourite is a multidimensional gemstone (associated with the 3rd eye & crown chakras) that cleanses & stabilizes the aura, advancing the parts of the brain that connects us to Source.  It balances and gives order to the energies removing chaos and disorder from ones environment. This awesome crystal gives clarity on situations where you need to see unbiased truth past the illusion or emotionally clouded judgement. Flourite also offers powerful healing and protection (especially on a psychic level). This was crazily spot on, in the fact that we had been thinking about getting a crystal for protection, especially against psychic manipulation, but did not know which crystal would be best. Not to mention needing clarity to make sound, unbiased decisions in our personal and business lives while ordering our environment and strengthening our connection with the I AM. Perfection.

Wood Merkaba added in another piece for me, that truly makes me feel as though she read my energies from afar. The Rhodonite pendant. Rhodonite is a stone of love which, through steady uplifting vibrations, helps one to stabilize their emotions, deepens one’s understanding, and matures one to meet life with balance and grace. It strengthens the understanding of unconditional, universal love past our concept of conventional love. It is associated with the heart chakra and increases self-love and love for all of creation.  Though it is not necessarily associated directly with the astrological sign Leo (my astrological sign & a fire sign), rhodonite is said to resonate with fire energy. Also, though I am a very loving being, I also can be as fiery in my emotions as I can be kind and altruistic. Rhodonite is here to give me more balanced emotions and increase my love for self and the world to the level it needs to be to spread love on a mass level and exact my purpose to spread positivity and peace among the Earth. Also, Rhodonite is said to help with anxiety, which at times, Triiin mildly battles with.

Jessica Miller, the angel behind Wood Merkaba, is a Certified crystal healer and makes beautiful wearable crystal pieces. It is clear that she charges, cleanses, and blesses the her crystal pieces before sending. Upon receiving these beautiful babies we could feel their fully charged, cool hum of power. When I put the copper plated flourite ring on my finger I could immediately feel powerful energy coursing around and through my finger. Talk about, WOW! Holding the Rhodonite pendant in my hand and stroking it with my finger, I could feel the energy emitting from it as well. Upon wearing the pendant out into life, I found my emotions to be more balanced in situations where I would have normally been riled. Its crazy how real the soul-healing powers of crystals, really is! I feel as though I was at least slightly more patient than normal and better at expressing love in tense situations. I am presently wearing it on a gold chain but I really want to get a copper chain for it. Copper is a great conductor of energy , the best (dare I say), which is why many crystals pieces are made with copper in, on, or, around the crystal.

As someone who does not use over-the-counter or prescription medication and wholly advocates natural methods of healing, I love using crystals as a part of a holistic healing plan for my mind, body, & spirit. These two beautiful pieces are already making wonderful additions to our budding crystal collections and I will continue to observe our progress in the areas these crystals pieces were created to aid.

Do any of you have experiences with flourite or rhodonite?? If so, share, Share, SHARE!!!

Check out WOOD MERKABA for beautiful & powerfully charged, wearable crystal pieces.

Pescetarian Delights: Amiiiri’s Seafood Pizza

Hey guys! I apologize for the non-existent  Menswear Monday & Trendspotting Tuesday posts. I have had class and work late nights both days, but today I am off and back to blogging! And…I have a very special treat for you guys.

pizzablog

You know how I told you guys I’m a pescetarian right? Well I love trying to create recipes that keep my diet exciting. Plus I love to cook…so there’s that. but at any rate, about a week or so ago, I made this seafood pizza and it was just heavenly! I thought I’d share the process with you guys and, if you want, you can make your own!

Ingredients:

1 can Biscuit Dough, Flour (as needed), 1/3 can Alfredo Sauce, 3 slices Cheddar Chees, 1 tomato, 1 onion, 1/2 green onion, minced garlic, italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder,  Tony Chacheres seasoning, 12 shrimp, 2 sticks crabmeat

Roll the biscuit dough up into a ball adding flour as you go. Keep mashing it as flat as you can, then reforming the ball and repeating the process, adding more flour as you go. The flour will make the dough more responsive to shaping. Once you get the dough malleable enough and flattened to our liking, put it into a round pan and press and stretch the dough to the fill the pan in your desired shape. Be sure to oil and flour the pan as well before putting anything into it. Sadly there are no pictures of that part because we didn’t decide to photo-document until the dough as already in the pan. Add the sauce of your choosing. We used alfredo sauce. Add seasoning as desired. If you choose to use cheese slices as we did, crumble them and sprinkle accordingly. Shredded cheese is also a viable option.

Trendspotting Tuesdays: Clean Eating + the Beginning of Journey

Here’s one trend that shouldn’t be a trend…

clean eating

Clean Eating. I say it shouldn’t be a trend because trends come and go. But I believe once you come into the knowledge and practice of eating clean, that should become a life addition that never goes out of style. A desire to take care of my temple and a somewhat spiritual call to become a vegetarian is what drove me toward clean eating. I used to be an avid supporter of the mantra, “I eat whatever I want, when I want, no matter how bad for me, & no one’s gonna stop me!” I figured as a rather healthy, fit, young person, why should I give up tasty, fatty foods? But every year for Lent, I give something up. Even though I’m not catholic, I entertain the idea of sacrifice as a dear ideal that is very good for the growing and rearing of the soul, as well as closer relationship with God. In a quest to be healthier and take care of our temples more, Triiinity & I gave up fast food, together.

I had been for some reason, around this time, started to feel a tug on my heart…and my stomach…to become a vegetarian. I was wildly opposed to the idea, yet it kept popping up all around me. This couldn’t be by coincidence. I shared this with Triiinity, who began growing toward the idea as well, and I succumbed to the inner desire. Or at least future “me” did. I told myself I would become a vegetarian one day. Though I gave myself no finite limit on that. At the time, such a declaration was big enough of a change of heart.

The more I stayed away from fast food, the more healthy changes I noticed in my body. I began to research just how bad fast food is for us. In that process, not only did I find out many terrible facts about fast food, but also about much of the food we buy on the shelves at our grocery stores each day. And how many of  those over-processed goods are responsible for deadly conditions, such as diabetes, high-blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, hormone imbalances…and the list goes on. I thought that, out of respect for self and my Creator, I would take better care of my body and try to get others to do the same as well.

We decided that, even after Lent, we would not return to eating fast food. We sustained ourselves by eating only home-cooked meals or food from restaurant-style establishments. Anything that came from a source that appeared too processed had to go. We also stopped over-consumption of candy, potato chips, and things of that nature. On June 1st we gave up meat and decided to become pescetarians. This means we do not eat beef, pork, or chicken, only fish and other seafood. And of course veggies and grains. We have now set a finite date for vegetarianism and plan to become vegetarians on January 1, 2014. We hope to one day become vegans…but that’s a longgg ways off, for now.

Now are by no means the best clean-eating connoisseurs on the block, we are but beginners ourselves. But I’ve noticed, since the start of my journey, that a lot more people in my age group are becoming interested in clean & healthy eating. I want to share a couple facts & tips I’ve learned along the way, to help people stay on the path to their cleanest, healthiest, and best self.

Fact: GMO’s (genetically modified organisms), which are banned in many other countries in the world are now present in 75% to 80% of  conventional processed food in the U.S. GMO’s have been linked to numerous health problems, and cause tumors in rats (as well as the vegetables and fruits they are used to manipulate)

Tip: Keep most of your shopping in the fresh food sections of the grocery store. Your basket should look more like this, than this.

Fact: Products that contain GMO’s are not required to be labeled by our FDA.

Tip: Buy organic whenever possible. Things try to use words like “natural” and claims like “no artificial ingredients” but usually unless it says organic, its not. Meaning it has some sort of processed or artificial ingredients present. Buying organic goods is a great help in avoiding GMO’s

Fact: Most animals used for meat are fed GMO grains and  corn feed and are pumped full of HGH (human growth hormones). The animals are kept in super harsh conditions, in which sickness and infection is not treated. In occasions where the sickness is treated, it  is treated by pumping sick animals full of antibiotics. Many animals dwell in such horrible conditions that their dead lay among them and the sick, dead bodies are eaten by their own kind. The ones that survive to eat the sick/dead animals…are the ones we end up eating.

Tip: My personal solution to this is to just phase out meat entirely. However, if you would like to keep meat in your diet, look for meat that is labeled as treated humanely, hormone-free, cage-free, etc. This way you will keep from eating animals that have been kept in unsanitary conditions or given unhealthy feed.

Fact: Not only does the FDA here in the U.S. not require GMO products to be labeled, which makes them hard to avoid, but also, due to the spike in interest in eating clean, many products claim to be all natural, GMO free, etc., etc., but are not.

Tip: Look for foods verified by the Non-GMO project whenever possible. They are a non-profit organization that looks to verify the standard of foods that claim to be organic or non-gmo. They also have loads of information on their website, so if you’re interested in learning more about GMO’s,  that’d be good to check out!

.        .        .

It can be more expensive to eat healthy sometimes, but not if your strategic with what you buy, you can actually cut costs in many areas. It may take a little more effort to shuck corn yourself or cut carrots instead of buying canned ones. However, you can ensure that they are organic and you will save a little money, too, by not buying things in their more convenient (pre-cut, pre-portioned, preservative laden..) form. And while some practices may be a bit more expensive, spending a little more money to eat healthier is cheaper than the money you’d spend on treatment for cancer or diabetes (or any other ailments that can come from eating unhealthily). So think on that and make the choice to be a little healthier, each day.

Other tips for eating clean are to avoid milk, bleached flours, and refined sugars. These are steps we have started the process toward but are not fully enacted in our diet yet. For now, we are just pescetarians, trying to eat cleaner, and taking things one step at a time. 🙂

***Also, I want to make it clear that being a vegetarian or vegan is not the only way to eat healthy or clean. It is but a choice in the way you desire to go about your journey to healthy and clean eating. ***

I know this process can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but the best way to begin is with research. Just research a little something on the subject each day. Knowledge is power and it is the best place to start as it almost always propels you toward action :).  If you are interested in healthy eating and need further guidance on how to get started, feel free to email me at jazthejournalist@gmail.com. I’ll be happy to share the knowledge I’ve gained in my journey thus far.
