Goddess BodTEA: Goddess Body Herbal Blends

 Hello Spiiirits!

Time for a quick review of amazing holistic products!

(Don’t those always make you happy? They sure put a smile on my face 🙂 )

Specifically we’ll be talking about the Herbal Blends that Goddess Body sent to our home. Anybody who knows me, KNOWS how much I LOVE tea!! So tasty, medicinal, & relaxing! The lovely Angela Elizabeth sent two kinds: The Mind & Spirit Herbal Blend and the Hair, Skin, & Nails Herbal Blend.

TEAms

Mind & Spirit: This blend contains natural  ingredients that are great for the nervous system like Gotu Kola & Yerba Mate. The intention of this blend is to enhance energy, focus, & concentration/attention, while also stimulating and strengthening ones third eye (consequently enhancing ones level of enlightenment). This tea definitely does what it boasts. After drinking it, I find my mind filled with clarity & deepened perspective. Triiin has even said she feels increased energy radiating from my crown, after ingesting this blend (sort of like a giant, well charged crystal). This blend is delicious hot or cold. I think this is a great blend to drink before you have to do anything that requires mental attention or stimulation. I think this blend is also perfect for those days when you are feeling so well.

TEAhsn

Hair Skin & Nails: This fragrant  blend contains one of my favorite flowers! Hibiscus! Hibiscus is great for the cardiovascular system & has blood cleansing properties. Featuring Rosemary, Mullen & plenty other health & beauty enhancing ingredients, I love the texture the blend has to it. And the benefits are AH-mazing, blessing its user with a nourished scalp, stronger roots, sustained growth, stronger nails, reduced blemishes, detoxified skin, for all around healthy hair, skin, and nails from inside out. This blend is delicious hot or cold as well, and (in my opinion) has a good flavor to be blended into fruity smoothies.

(Tea comes in 4oz packs with a tea ball infuser, Both blends are 100% natural & 100% vegan)

I truly can’t choose my favorite out of the two! That tea ball infuser that comes with each blend is a Godsend as well! I love it so much. It makes making using blends or fresh herbs/roots, etc. for teas a WORLD easier.

Angela Elizabeth of Goddess Body has a MS in Biology and her holistic blends are the TRUTH. Not only Mind & Spirit and Hair, Skin & Nails herbal blends are available, but Yoni Goddess blend, Fibroid & Cyst blend, and many more delicious, holistic, healing blends!

Check out GoddessBody.org to try these, or any of the amazing blends available for purchase!

OOTD: BDAY || 23 Earthstrong

23 years ago…August 18th at 7:04pm…a young G was born into the world.

A young Goddess that is…

And in this lovely season of the Leo, I celebrate my birth and another year dwelling in this beautiful Earthly realm.

I am entirely GRATEFUL.

Grateful to have family & friends that genuinely care about me.

Grateful to be living my life in the city I have always dreamed.

Grateful for vision, creativity, and inspiration.

Grateful for all the love in my life.

I am as passionate & inspired as ever to fulfill my God-given destiny in the Earth, and live my dreams in the process.

And as I turn 2-3

{2+3 = 5}

I thank the Almighty Creator for all the grace upon my life and this year shall be a year of success, freedom, joy, & loving light! I declare it!

THE DAY

Had a lot of birthday fun! Triiin gave me the royal treatment. From delicious breakfast in bed, home spa treatments, an impromptu BDAY photoshoot, a beautiful homemade cake of perfection, plenty of blunts, wine, & tango lessons! Not to mention a delicious gourmet dinner and awesome gifts. I truly felt like a Leo lioness Queen.

My family sent their beautiful birthday wishes such a manner that there was no way that I could not feel the love. They also sent me a b-day package that arrived perfectly on today, but my apartment manager left her office early, so I couldn’t get it 😦 . However I’m still happy about the package and so excited to see whats inside! My mom always sends something right on time that’s just what I want/need. Some intuition on that woman… not to mention our connection 🙂 . (P.S. since first starting this post I have seen whats in the package! &it was right-on-time gifts, as usual 🙂 ). It’s my first birthday that we haven’t been able to see each other and I miss ’em! But I know they were all with me in spirit.

IMAGE , my friend & an amazingly dope artist, also played a part in making my birthday special! Not only did he give me the gift of a beautiful piece of art to hang on my wall, he gave me a beautiful handmade necklace to serve as wearable piece of art as well! He also took Triiin & I for a lovely day of drinks, desserts, and good vibes 🙂

The Goddess Body products that were sent into our home by the lovely Angela Elizabeth were the CAS Toning Balm & the Yoni Oil.

gb1 gb2

CAS Toning Balm: The CAS Toning Balm is a blend that clears and smooths skin, targeting cellulite, fatty deposits. The CAS in name stands for Coffee, Aloe, & Shea. The topical caffeine from the coffee widens blood vessels, improving circulation and the removal of toxins, fluid, and fat. Aloe is renown for its amazing skin moisturizing, tightening, and regenerative properties. Vitamin A & E dense shea butter is a superb moisturizer with healing properties for skin and hair. So knowing that these are the 3 main ingredients, you already know that this concoction is primed for greatness…and it did not disappoint! The product is packaged into a glass container. You get a pretty sizable amount of product, especially when you take into account the consistency which is thick but spreads easily (and doesn’t take a lot of product to cover a pretty good amount of space). The balm smells delicious giving the wearer a light citrus scent. Due to all the natural oils, the balm is oily on your skin if over applied, so be careful (but like I said you don’t need too much). Immediately after application, my skin felt soft and supple and remained that way throughout the entire day. After no more than a week of using this product daily, I noticed an increased natural sheen and glow to my skin. This amplified natural sheen and glow remained even on days when I skipped using the product. Though I don’t have a ton of marks and blemishes, I did notice the marks I do have begin to substantially lighten to blend more and more with my skin. I absolutely love this balm!

Yoni Oil: Yoni is the Sanskrit word for Divine Passage, Vagina, Womb, Sacred Temple…you get the picture. It’s our blessed and sacred lady bits, Goddesses, and yoni oil is a prime holistic asset for keeping the precious vagina working to Goddess-standard. Yoni oil contains a combination of oils such as tea tree oil and neem oil as well as delicious herbs lemongrass and sage. These oils and herbs (as well as the numerous others present in the blend) combine to create the perfect potion for feminine yoni health. The oil has the capability to restore balance, acting as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal antidote. The combo also strengthens and tones the vaginal walls while encouraging healthy lubrication as well. It also can be used as a healthy natural lube, itself. With daily application, I observed a notable increase in the lubrication and strength of my own yoni since beginning to use this oil back in May. I feel that the increase in vaginal strength has caused my menstrual cycle to complete more quickly (since I can expel more at once). The oil, as well as healthy eating practices, has also decreased to the number of painful days in my cycle to one. Lastly it has a delicious lemongrass-y scent and can be effectively used on, not only your yoni, but your skin & hair as well. I haven’t actually tried the oil on my hair yet, but the anti-bacterial properties work wonderfully on skin (especially when a pimple surfaces up! It’ll get rid of that sucker in a flash). Triiin has pretty sensitive face skin when it comes to which products she can use and she swears by this oil for her face! This is definitely a new staple product in our lives.

These worked out so phenomenally, I can’t wait to try more Goddess Body products! I’d definitely recommend the CAS Toning Balm and the Yoni Oil to any woman ready to channel her inner Goddess! (Plus the holistic products are universally good for skin and hair, so men you can use them too!)

Trendspotting Tuesdays: Mermaid Mane

mermaidhairblogAT

As the warmer seasons of the year kick into full swing, fashion begins to reflect the seasonal shift in the myriad of colors that make themselves visible in trends & style.

Now as we have already noticed, neon-pastels (seems like an oxymoron, but oddly enough it’s not..lol) have made a heavy appearance in the Spring/Summer 2014 trendscape. This color trend has permeated everything, from nail polish, to accessories, to lipstick you name it. Hair, is no exception. This new obsession with neon-pastels has brought on a the mass desire for mermaid hair!

No matter what race, color, or creed, hair texture, or style, many are dying their hair beautiful bright pastel colors like coral, seafoam green, teal, and lavender.

Some opt for ombre, doing darkest shade to lightest shade (roots to end). Others distinctly highlight their strands a brilliant trifecta of neon-pastel shades. And some opt for all over, one color, neon-pastel strands. No matter the method, the result is quite vibrant & very reminiscent of the our images of sexy mer-people. And I love it!

I don’t have the balls to dye my entire head of hair (for the hair health issues color poses), but I do plan to dye Delilah (my loc) purple on the tip one of these days. Does that count…?? Haha.

What do you guys think of the trend? Would you die your hair in this mermaid fashion?

Let me know!

Until Next Time…

OOTD: Updo’s & Thrifted Pleasantries

An Outfit of the Day from a couple days ago…

Actually, it was last Thursday, which was an awesome day for a lot of reasons. It was my last day of Summer session I, my mommie and grammie came out to visit me, and they packed me down with a house full of groceries. I also got a job on Thursday for which I had to go in and do paperwork. As I watch my days’ progressions, it just amazing to see how many blessings God lays in my path. Can’t be anything but thankful.

gold studs – F21, gold charm necklace – SB, shirt – Free Spiiirit Vintage, cobalt pants – Thrifted, seahorse ring – Glitter, bicycle ring – SB, belt – Thrifted, camel oxfords – Thrifted

Every piece of this outfit (minus the studs & rings) was thrifted at some point. Even the necklace, which was borrowed, is a vintage gold piece that was picked up in a thrift store. Ahh, I love my thrifty days. They give life to my inner frugal fashionista! The updo was a quick, easy twist on a simple hairstyle. If you guys want a tutorial, just let me know.

How to Care for Natural Hair

htcnaturalhair

More & more, women of color are embracing their crowning glory. Its an amazing thing, seeing all this large-and-in-charge, curly, kinky, natural hair. I just love it! However many women complain that they don’t know what to do with their natural or how to care for it. This is often times is a deterrent for women who may be interested in going natural and this issue sometimes sends naturals running back to the “creamy-crack” (as its been coined).

I’ve been fully natural a little under 2 years now (growing it out for close to 3) and in that time I’ve learned a couple tricks to the trade.

  1. Never detangle dry. Natural hair can tangle beyond belief, simply because the curls grow and curl around each other. This is a natural occurrence and while it doesn’t need to be tackled every day, it is something that will need to be tackled. Break your hair down into sections and use some sort of moisturizer or conditioner to soften your hair before you go at it. Then use a wide tooth comb and go to work. (Only pull out the rattail for small knots, otherwise you’ll be ripping out hair unnecessarily.
  2. Keep your hair moisturized. It takes a longer time for natural scalp oils to reach the tips of curly hair, simply because of our wave pattern. You have to compensate for that by keeping moisture in your hair. Pay attention to ingredients as this is very important to keeping moistue in your hair. Watch out for ingredients that strip hair such as sulfate (which is found in many shampoos) as well as ingredients like mineral oil and petrolatum which only give the appearance of moisture but actually just coat and suffocate your hair while leaving it dry and brittle. The best moisturizers are ones that have water as their first ingredient. Also, if you can’t find sulfate-free shampoo, try co-washing (washing with only conditioner). It does wonders for my hair, I actually rarely even use shampoo anymore. Leave-in is cardinal as well. Apply after washing and seal lightly with the oil of your choice. (coconut oil & olive oil can be found at your local grocer and are great for sealing and/or scalp oiling). Also sleeping with a satin cap or satin pillowcase is cardinal to keeping the moisture in your hair and off the pillow.
  3. Low Manipulation Styles & Protective Styles are your best friend. First let me state the difference between low-mani styles and protective styles. Low-mani styles are styles that do not require a lot of manipulation for upkeep. You don’t have to comb through this type of style every day and it is usually low stress on the hair. These types of styles include, but are not limited to, twist-outs, braid-outs, bantu knot-outs, etc. Protective styles protect the hair. They usually involve your hair being hidden from the elements in some way, whether it is just the ends of your hair, or your whole head. Buns can be seen as protective styles because your hair is tucked under and the ends do not have the opportunity to be exposed to the elements (and henceforth, more opportunities for breakage). Hair extensions, marley twists, bohemian braids, etc., can also be used as protective styles. Both of these methods of styling are cardinal for the natural who desires healthy hair. Our hair is just not made to be combed and raked through all the time. Sometimes it good to just leave it alone for a while. Continue to care for it an nourish it, but do not feel like you have to comb it every single day. Embrace your nappy! I usually do a braid-out or twist out and leave it that way for a week. I cover it with a satin bonnet at night and just fluff and go in the morning. If my hair gets too shrunken throughout the week I may revert to a puff or some other bi-product style, but I do not recomb and rake through it every day for a new style. I also throw in a long term protective style every now and then (My last one was bohemian braids). Giving your hair a rest keeps it from breaking and over-shedding, while helping it stay strong.
  4. Be careful with heat. I’m not going to say you can’t use heat. I mean, what’s natural hair if not versatile. But I will say go easy on the heat. You shouldn’t be blow drying and flat ironing every week. This kind of constant direct heat can pop your hair, make it dry broken & brittle, and even potentially change your curl pattern. Look up heat damage on YouTube and you will see dozens of horror stories about people who flat-ironed their hair too much and literally lost their curl pattern. It just kept getting looser and looser until it got straight…and in some cases it only took one time to cause those sort of damaging effects. With those kind of risks, excessive heat use is just not worth it, if you ask me. If and when you do choose to use heat, use a good heat protectant on your hair. Grapeseed oil is a great natural heat protectant.
  5. Remember, your hair is not the next girl’s hair. Does your hair need more protein or moisture? Do twist-outs work best for you or are puffs more your style? Get to know your hair. Pay attention to what it needs. If it is too limp, it may need protein. If it is too dry it may need moisture. If your hair tangles too much when left in a puff, opt for another style. Your hair will tell you what it needs, if you would just be willing to listen.

Before you give up on your natural hair, give it the best chance for survival! Try these couple of tips and I’m sure that you will see a dramatic turnaround in the manageability and health of your natural hair.
